IE 8 Correctly Renders the Acid2 Browser Test Posted by Michael on 19 Dec 2007 - 20:03

Today the Internet Explorer team over at Microsoft announced that the current build of IE8 can now correctly render the Acid2 Browser test.
The Acid2 test, checks how well a browser works with several different web standards. You can test your browser here. Currently the latest versions of all browsers can pass the test except IE7. Firefox supposedly passes the test but when I run the test on FireFox it fails, not sure why as it should pass.
Microsoft says their goal with IE8 is to support the right set of web standards without breaking existing websites.
"Our goal with Internet Explorer 8 is to deliver the next generation web browser designed for the new web; making it safe and easy to use web services. For consumers, IE8 will deliver the easiest and safest way to experience the web and web services in a way that is meaningful to them. For web developers and internet content providers, IE8 will enable consistent development across browser platforms, increased productivity, and richer, more integrated user experiences and services – all without breaking the web." Said the IE team.
So I guess IE users will just have to wait for IE 8 to get a browser that is standards compliant, and Opera cannot claim in its complaint to the EU that Microsoft isn’t actively trying to develop a standards compliant browser. Which is why Microsoft probably announced this today.
