Microsoft today has announced that Windows Vista has finally gone gold, after five years of delays, and speculation of more delays, Windows Vista is Final.

Microsoft made the announcement at about 2 PM (EST) with the Windows Chief Jim Allchin saying the code was approved about an hour before the announcement. Allchin also said that Windows Vista will go on sale to the General Public on the 30th of January. Many expected a release date to be during the CES convention in Las Vegas.

The software giant has a November 30th press conference scheduled to announce Windows Vista along with Office 2007 which code went final last week.

This will be the first real update for Windows users since XP was released in 2001 and is set to be one of the most anticipated updates in a long time. Microsoft over the past year has said there will no longer be a 5 year wait between operating systems.

NVIDIA also launched the first DirectX 10 card today; the Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX is the only graphics card to currently support DirectX 10.
