LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 5, 2006--Seventeen magazine and MySpace.com announced today that they are teaming up to encourage social activism among Seventeen readers and MySpace members through a public service announcement contest. Beginning today, both Seventeen and MySpace invite visitors to show what it means to be an activist by creating their own Public Service Announcement (PSA) and sharing it with others through the official Seventeen MySpace profile (http://www.myspace.com/seventeen_magazine).

"Our more than 13 million readers are concerned about the state of the world around them and passionate about making a difference," said Seventeen Editor-in-Chief Atoosa Rubenstein. "By partnering with one of today's largest websites for young people, we're creating a forum where teens can share their message about social activism with others."

To be a part of the contest, participants are asked to submit a 15 or 30 second PSA about why it is important to be an activist. The contest, open to Seventeen readers and MySpace members, gives participants the chance to tell others how to get active about issues that matter most to them. Those wishing to participate in the contest can submit their PSAs by using the MySpace video upload form on the Seventeen profile.

"We've seen tremendous activity from our younger members participating in causes and activism within the MySpace community, said Shawn Gold, SVP of Marketing for MySpace.com. "Seventeen's long history of championing social causes that impact youth culture makes this partnership a natural fit. Because MySpace is about enhancing the lives of our members and empowering them to make a difference, we are thrilled to work with Seventeen to showcase the power of an individual voice and how it can make an impact throughout our online community and beyond."

The top three PSAs, chosen by a panel of Seventeen and MySpace staffers, will be posted on http://www.seventeen.com beginning August 16 where people will be given the opportunity to vote for the most compelling PSA. The winning submission, to be announced during the week of August 21st, will be featured on Seventeen.com, MySpace.com and later this year, the winner will be featured in an article in Seventeen magazine. The PSA contest will premiere in Seventeen's August issue, on newsstands July 4th, and on the magazine's official MySpace profile.

The official Seventeen MySpace profile has long served as the place for Seventeen readers to check out blogs from the magazine's staff, take quizzes and get updated about what's happening at Seventeen. Readers can also reach out to individual editors at the magazine, including Editor-in-Chief Atoosa Rubenstein at http://www.myspace.com/atoosa17.
