ICAN OKs XXX extension

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) said it has reached an agreement with ICM Registry to offer the .xxx domain extension for pornographic websites.

The new xxx extension should be available by late fall early winter. The adult website industry brings in over 12 billion a year and the sale of the domain is expected to bring in millions more.

The xxx extension is expected to sell for $60.00 USD a year and they hope it will protect children from adult oriented sites and the new domain extension will allow content filters to work more effectively. That is if adult websites actually use the extension.
