For the past few weeks we have been hearing rumor after rumor, fuzzy photo after fuzzy photo of Microsoft's supposed iPod killer. Well after making us bite our nails with anticipation Microsoft has finally pulled the curtain on what they call Zune. (Possibly another Wii blunder)
Microsoft made the official announcement via Billboard.com (monthly subscription of 20 dollars required to read that article.)
So what's Zune? It's Microsoft's new, holistic approach to music and entertainment. And yes, this year, we'll be releasing a device as part of the project. Under the Zune brand, we're looking to build a community for connecting with folks, all to discover new music and entertainment. Writes Cesar Menendez a Microsoft employee on the Zune project in his zuneinsider.com blog.
There apparently is also a coming soon site http://comingzune.com/ which currently displays a flash animation of a man petting his rabbit.
So will iTunes have to worry about Zune? Who knows only time will tell but Microsoft has tried to go after iTunes in the past in the most part with 3rd parties and as of yet as not been successful.
