Last year Yahoo attempted to screw their small business customers into paying $34.95 a year for their domain, the renewal fee prior to that was just $9.95. Yahoo said they wanted to cater to small businesses as the reason. Total BS but then again Yang ran Yahoo into the ground.
Any how, I had read complaint after complaint from people having issues transferring out their domain from Yahoo to Godaddy or any other domain registrar for that matter, and as our daughter site CellRants.com was registered with Yahoo I thought I would have problems transferring out. Well I didn’t. It took a total of 4 days to get my domain transferred from Yahoo to Godaddy, and both Yahoo and GoDaddy made the process easy.
To transfer your domain it’s very simple. Visit GoDaddy.com and begin the transfer, it will tell you what to do. You will however need to unlock your domain at Yahoo and get the Auth code. The Aut hcode is located on the same page where you unlock your domain in the Yahoo Domain control panel. Make sure you also have access to the admin email account for the domain on file with the register.
After that it’s just a waiting game. GoDaddy may instruct you to accept the transfer at Yahoo but that is just a generic piece of text and all you have to do is wait it out. When the domain transfer is complete 4 to 5 days later you will get an email from GoDaddy.
Yahoo wanted $34.95 for 1 year. I was able to get the domain transfer plus 2 years for just $14.95.
