Last week, Microsoft announced UltimatePC.com, a website where people could go to learn about various computing scenarios and learn what products would suit them best to work in that scenario.
They also introduced Ultimate Exclusives, a bitch slap of sorts to Windows Vista Ultimate Customers.
Why is it a bitch slap? Because Ultimate Exclusives is Microsoft’s attempt to add value to Vista Ultimate and make up for the lack of Ultimate Extras. But what best describes Ultimate Exclusives is the Val-Pak coupon pack you get in the mail.
Basically, Microsoft has said to Ultimate users; “Hey you purchased Vista Ultimate for the Extras, but now we are giving you coupon codes for great deals on Hardware and Software” and forcing you to spend more money to get an exclusive you have already paid for.
I think of it like this, since we have had no real Ultimate Extras released to us in the past 13 months (Yes I know there have been language packs and Dreamscene), users of Vista Ultimate have paid an extra 100 dollars over Vista Premium for a membership to Microsoft’s version of Costco, Bjs, or Sams Club. I wonder when I will get my membership card.
I have spoken to Barry Goffe, the guy behind Ultimate Exclusives and Ultimate Extras, and he explained to me (conversation off the record) why there are delays and what not. While I understand the reasoning, I still think Ultimate Exclusives is a bad idea, and even if they release a new Ultimate Extra tomorrow I will still think its a bad idea.
After speaking with various people who have Windows Vista Ultimate, they all indicate to me that they would rather have no Extras than have Exclusives thrown into their face.
So, all I have to ask is, “Windows Vista Ultimate team, What the F*#@?”

Heh, the Live Diamond card is moving over to a Pay to join card later this year.
I signed up for it a while ago and all I ever got was a coupon to Pop-Eye’s Chicken which is nowhere near me. Not sure who will pay for the membership unless they toss in Recon armor or something.

You’re kidding me right? I had no idea the Diamond Card was moving to a pay to join type thing.
