AT&T Chief Executive Randall Stephenson said that his company is having a hard time filling 5,000 customer service Jobs in the US, because they can not find skilled workers.
“We’re having trouble finding the numbers that we need with the skills that are required to do these jobs,” He told a group of business professionals in San Anthonio Texas.
He went on to blast the US education system and said that the high school dropout rate is as high as 50% for some groups.
While I agree that the US education system is not the greatest, and it may be true that there is a 50% drop out rate among some ethnic groups in some communities. I honestly find it hard to believe he cannot find Americans who are skilled enough to fill these Customer Service Jobs.
AT&T in 2006 promised to bring back 5,000 Jobs back to the US. AT&T, in the past 2 years, has only brought back 1,400, less than 50% of their goal.
Hell, I can personally find AT&T 3,600 Americans that are Skilled Enough to do Customer Service work in my back yard (I live in Brooklyn NY). All they would need is maybe a week or two of training. After all, how hard is it to read a script?

What qualifications are they looking for? Do they want High School Educated men and women or people with Bachelor Degrees?
Come on give me a F*#@ing break Mr. Stephenson. The problem isn’t that there aren’t skilled Americans. The problem is you would rather pay some cheap hourly wage and offer no benefits to someone in India than 8 to 10 dollars to an American.
I know plenty of people in my back yard who would work for minimum wage as a CS agent for your company, because they are desperate for jobs. These people are hard working people, who just need work and probably don’t have work because you rather employ Sufian Sidiqqui and not Calvin Johnson.
Mr. Stephenson says he thinks companies like his need to help with the US education system, and I agree. Next time you guys make a huge donation to some charity, remember our Public School Systems. Remember the poor men and women in this country, and offer them a job.
So what the F*#@ AT&T?

i kind agree with the ceo guy but i agree with you too, there are more than 5000 skilled people with out jobs.

This is how it is there people--you couldnt have said it more better!!! Archie Bunker onced called them “ American Thugs and Thieves.” He shouldve included dishonesty and less than honorable, practically racist comments! its all summed up in one word: Greed.

I agree with what he says about education etc. But I do not agree that there aren’t enough Americans skilled enough to do customer service.
The problem in my opinion is he does not want to pay what American workers cost.
I will be terminating my at&t;wireless service because of this, I will not support a company that does not want to support the public it services.

You got that right!! they keep ramming it down our throats that the “customer rules”. Bullshit! the customer is just a NICKEL in their eyes. all you get when you call customer service is Nabib in India or “Bambi” in the phillipines! and they are useless in problem-solving----and making pennies a day! and fyi--per the contract signed 4 years ago---those “offshore” jobs were supposed to come back with 2006 as the DEADLINE!!! He’s had plenty of time to do it---as did his predecessor who made this deal (whiteacre) befoer handing over the reigns to stephenson (and departing the company with 186 MILLION DOLLARS). Customer service is all but DEAD there, and loyalty to their employees and customers is ZIP!! Its all about profits for Randall and the highest echelon. the rest of us mere mortals are screwed on a regular basis and he is truly the SHAME OF the entire company!
