Win a dx9000 Business TouchSmart PC (Developer Contest)

HardwareGeeks.com along with Ask The Admin, Absolute Windows and HP are giving away 3 (1 on each site) dx9000 TouchSmart PCs.

All you have to do is create an application that will work on the dx9000 or other TouchSmart PC’s from HP. The application can be of anything, I personally would like to see an app designed for hospitals where you can pull up a patients chart and view their files and even x-rays and are able to zoom in and out using your fingers. But your application does not have to do that, it can do anything.

It can be like the Time 100 Application for the TouchSmart, or something similar to what is set up at O’Hare airport in Chicago. Just create something useful and fun and have fun doing it.
Click here for the Developers Guidelines for the TouchSmart systems.

If you do not own a dx9000 or a TouchSmart PC do not worry, HP has partnered with Micro Center to allow you to test your application on the TouchSmart PC’s they have on Display on Sun., Aug. 16 and Sun., Sept. 20. I am even thinking about dropping by the Long Island Micro Center here in NY on the 16th of August just to see who shows up there to test their Apps out.

The rules are simple, impress me. If I like your App you get the dx9000. If not it really isn’t the end of the world as two other sites are giving one away and your App may impress them.

How to enter? Well easy just submit your App to me Michael (A) hardwaregeeks.com and I’ll judge it, entries must be received by October 3rd 2009.

Just note if you win one of the other two dx9000 systems you won’t win ours. The other two sites are AbsoluteVista.com and AsktheAdmin.com.

Good Luck and Happy Coding!

Just a note the dx9000 starts at $1499 USD.

So my Blackberry Curve 8350i for the second time in the 5 months I have had it is not getting service, the first time they swapped my phone and told me if it happens again to call Tech Support that they may have a fix for the issue in the future since it was an unknown issue then.

I call Tech Support and was told they will call me back in an hour, after 8 hours I call back and get transfered to a porn ad several times. I have multiple videos to post if you guys don’t believe me but I just posted one.

Microsoft on June 8th started a somewhat admirable thing, for every complete download of IE 8 from Browseforthebetter.com Microsoft will donate 8 meals to feeding America.

The promotion will run until August 8th 2009. However what is confusing is Microsofts Math. They claim they will donate 8 meals per download, however their fine print reads “ Microsoft® is donating $1.15 per download to Feeding America® up to a maximum of $1,000,000”

While I could never afford to give 1 million dollars to any charity, I for one have no idea how $1.15 equals 8 meals unless they consider a meal a piece of bread and water. But never the less the donation itself is admirable, but I wish companies were a bit more honest when it came to these types of contributions.

E3 is half the size from what I remember the last E3 at the Los Angeles Convention center was, but it is more fun this time around than last, and I am not sure if its because its smaller and we feel (Radiris and Nina from CuteGeek.com are with me) we can conquer the entire floor while we are here, or because it’s just that so much fun.

We have yet to see everything at E3 yet and I promise you guys we will have pictures and videos up soon we just have really bad internet in our hotel, and combine that with Youtube having issues last night we weren’t able to get some videos up that we recorded.
We did meet some famouse people while we have been here, Radiris even got to take a picture with Barry Bonds.

Anyway I will try to update you guys with more E3 info tonight.

HP Today announced the addition of a new Thin Client which looks similar to their new Probook line. The new HP 4410t Mobile Thin client has a starting price of $549 and is an affordable option for any business.

The new 4410t has enhanced security access to server-based computing which should reduce the work load of your IT department.

“We’re offering businesses a highly secure, manageable and easy-to-deploy virtualization solution that combines HP’s industry-leading thin client and notebook technologies,” said Carol Hess-Nickels, director, Worldwide Business Notebook Marketing, Personal Systems Group, HP. “The new HP 4410t Mobile Thin Client leverages HP engineering and design expertise to deliver true notebook performance that customers can deploy in the office or in the field.”
The HP 4410 also delivers an improved multimedia experience and according to HP should increase productivity when using their HP Virtual Client Essential software.

As I mentioned earlier the 4410t has a similar design as the new Probooks, as it also has a stylish look and the chick-let keyboard, the 4410t also features a battery that can be charged up to 90% in 90 minutes. The 4410t also only weighs 4.3 pounds and has a 14 inch widescree LED display.

The 4410t is also 90% recyclable and they expect it to meet Energy Star 5.0 specs in July.

Kodak ink not up to par

So as I mentioned last week, I saw a commercial from Kodak about how they can save me hundreds of dollars a year in ink if I used their product. So I got their ESP7.

But anyway the first thing wrong with that claim after I thought about it was that I nor anyone I know for that matter who isn’t running a business does not use enough ink in one year to have any savings that add up to over a $100 dollars, reminds me of the Fuzzy Math Al Gore had during his presidential run.

Also the Kodak ink comes in a multi color carriage and if one runs out I am required to replace all my ink with the exception of the black that right there is money down the drain. At least with other printers I have like the HP Photosmart each color is in an individual cartridge so I but what I need.

But anyway, so I just got back from San Francisco and I decided to print out some pictures I took while I was there.

The print quality sucks on the Kodak printer and so does the ink! The print quality is nowhere as good as my other printer.

I haven’t finished testing both printers yet, but Kodak claims their photo prints are 13 cents each and well I guess you get what you are paying for because the quality in my opinion isn’t there.
