Today I picked up the 2009 Lincoln MKX an elegant SUV which is the envy of all my neighbors. They take pride in the fact that I have to return it.
Some of you are probably wondering, why I have had 3 cars to review over the past month and well to be honest the subscription for the Sirius Sat Radio had expired on the cars and I was unable to test out the Travel Link Feature and Ford wanted me to try it out. I of course wanted to test another car out so I agreed to try out the Sirius Travel Link Feature.
The Sirius Travel Link feature is simply a must have for any car with a navigation system even if you don’t get the Sat Radio. Travel Link allows you to super impose on your GPS map current travel conditions, it also alerts you of traffic jams and helps you avoid them. It actually saved me 20 minutes on my commute from Manhattan (Where I picked up the car) to my home in Brooklyn because even though I knew the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel would be my quickest wa home and the GPS navigation agreed, if it weren’t for the Travel Link feature I would of been stuck in traffic for who knows how long due to an accident.
But it doesn’t just help with traffic, it help you with weather. You can literally tell the car to display your 5 day forecast and it pulls it up for you and displays it on the dashboard screen. You can ask it for sports scores, movie listings and fuel prices.
The weather feature is probably my favorite of them all, being able to see my local radar was great. I am a very safe driver just ask Radiris who commented on that when she and I had the Flex last week, and in a heavy rain storm I am known for pulling over to the side and wait for it to pass. With the weather radar I can guesstimate how long it will take for the storm to pass.
I can also see Storm Chasers using Travel Link to chase tornado’s or something. Maybe Lincoln should sponsor storm chasers on the Discovery Channel. Yes I know storm chasers need live radar not a loop but it be cool to see a bunch of Lincoln MKX’s chasing don tornado’s.
Having Travel Link on top of Mcrosoft Sync just turns your car into a up to date and well connected information center. You no longer have to whip out your cell phone to get movie listings, or sports scores its all there in the car and all you need is your voice to access it.
I was extremely impressed by Microsoft Sync but Travel Link from Sirius took the Sync experience to a new level that just amazes me.
