Symantec is working on a new product called Norton Online Family, a web based tool that will allow parents to keep track of what their children do online.
With Symantec’s Norton Online Family, users will be able to essentially log their kids activities, know what websites they visit, whom they chat with and what they talked about. It can also restrict their online activities and easily block them from sites they shouldn’t visit.
The tool is currently in Beta so it is not yet available for purchase, but if you wish to participate in the beta visit http://www.norton.com/onlinefamily

“not nice to spy on your kids, parents should trust them to do what is right”
--- Yea, but what if the Columbine Shooter’s parents actually looked over their shoulders every once and a while? A hands-off parental approach may not be the best method for some kids.
While I agree children should learn trust by being trusted, as a parent I have a responsibility to make sure my kids end up as productive stewards of the world. If my kids are looking up horrible things, I want to know so I could provide advice and guidance.

I work for Symantec and on the Norton Online Family product. Kids will know at all times that Norton Online Family is running on the computer. With this product, we really wanted to get parents to talk to their kids about what they’re doing online. One cool thing about this product is that when you set it up, you create house rules, and it’s set up in a format where kids and parents are encouraged to sit down together and create the house rules together...so there’s a discussion about what’s acceptable and unacceptable when it comes to online activity. Check it out because there’s a few other things in the product that really help foster communication between parents and kids. We really want to get your feedback on the product, especially parents’ perspectives!
