Everyone has a camcorder now a days, and some people are having a hard time getting that content directly onto their computer and burned onto a DVD. Samsung has made it their mission to make that process easier with their TruDirect drive.

The Samsung TruDirect drive allows you to record directly to a DVD. You do not need to view your video in any other programs. You just stream it to your computer, and TruDirect will put it on a DVD at the same time.

PLEASE EDIT BEFORE SUBMITING POSTSo how exactly do you do this? Well you plug in your camcorder via Firewire, or you can use a product like Pinnacles MoviePlus. Once your camcorder is connected, just place a blank DVD in the drive and fire up the TruDirect software by simply pressing a button on the drive.

When the TruDirect Software opens it will ask you what video source you want to use. You can use a webcam connected to your computer or a camcorder. Once you select the source, hit the record button.

I really liked that you can record directly from your webcam, and I plan to use it as a security feature. I will set it to record from my webcam when I am away from my office. I just need some really large discs.

It’s as simple as that. Your DVD will hold about 80 minutes worth of video content depending on the quality of your video. The better the quality, the less it will hold.

The entire process is painless and extremely simple. Anyone and everyone can do it.

One of the coolest things about the SE-S204S is, you do not need a super large hard drive to transfer your video to before you burn it.

The software also allows you to design the splash screen for your DVD, so that when you insert it into a DVD player you have menus to browse and can select what scene and chapter you want to start at. It’s basically a professional DVD made easy.

Overall the TruDirect drive from Samsung is amazing. It is easy and fun to use. So, we here at HardwareGeeks.com award it our 5 Star Editors Choice award for the month of February.

The TruDirect SE-S204S will be available at Best Buy and Micro Center starting in the Middle of Feb. 2008 with a MSRP of $159.99.
