Backing up made easy is exactly what the Maxtor One Touch does for you, and given it’s large hard drive up to 1TB, it has more than enough storage space.

So, for the past month and a half, I have been trying out both the Maxtor One Touch 4 and the Maxtor One Touch 4 Mini, and both are pretty good at doing what they are advertised to do. But what makes them so great is how easy it is to do.

So what exactly do they do? Well of course they give you additional storage, and in this day and age where we have Gigs of Photos and Terabytes of Movies, a large hard drive is needed.

maxtor one touch 4Oh and before I continue, the One Touch 4 has a brand new look that is a vast improvement over the One Touch III. That goes for the Mini as well.

Installation is pretty straight forward. You plug the One Touch 4 into your computer and install the Maxtor Software. It is as simple as that! There is no need for any CDs, as the software is on the drive and comes up automatically when you connect it to your computer.

The software then takes you through a wizard on how to secure your drive and schedule backups. It was so easy I think my 80 year old aunt could do it, and it took me literally less than a minute to do everything I wanted to do.

Something I noticed right away was the Maxtor Software really didn’t use up too many resources. I have tried other products with proprietary software. Sometimes the software would make the system sluggish, and I would just remove it. Other times the UI was hideous, and I would remove it for that. The software for the One Touch had a fairly decent UI, and because of that, I think it made my experience so much better because everything was exactly where you’d expect it to be, and it was all self explanatory.

After playing with the software, I really wanted to test out how fast I could move data from my internal hard drive to the Maxtor One Touch, and I am happy to report that it was fast.

I transferred a Blu-Ray movie I downloaded from bit-torrent, about 30 GB in size. I expected it to take a few hours for it to transfer, but it took far less than that. It took about 35 minutes, and 75 minutes to transfer it from the One Touch to my Internal drive.

This is pretty fast considering the size of the movie and knowing that not too long ago it used to take a day transfer a Gig of data.

Overall my experience with the One Touch 4 was great, and for that, I award it our 5 Star Must have award.

As for the One Touch 4 Mini, same exact review just mini size. I do have to say that the mini is much better for a person who travels a lot, although you won’t get up to a TB of storage with the mini. Below is a list of how much storage each comes with.

One Touch 4 :  250 GB, 500 GB, 750 GB, 1 TB

One Touch 4 Mini storage: 80 GB, 120 GB, 160 GB, 250 GB

You can get the One Touch 4 from newegg starting at $100.99 for the full sized version and $95.99 for the mini.
