For years I have seen the commercial for Roombas on TV, and honestly, I thought it was a scam. I always thought to myself that these things don’t clean good, or they won’t clean the entire floor. I had a lot of doubt in the product and never really considered getting one.
I reconsidered at Christmas time when I bought my mom a refurbished Roomba. She has problems with her hands, and I thought it would help her keep her floors clean.
What I didn’t expect was that it would actually do such a great job at cleaning her floor that she rarely ever sweeps. The only time she sweeps is if she spills something on the floor and or if there are big pieces of paper scattered around (Normally happens when my nephew visits her).
After I got her the Roomba, I wanted one. After all, I am as lazy as they come; I hate cleaning up, and I have even paid people to come clean up my place, because quite honestly, I hate doing it. Luckily I was able to get the Roomba 560 from iRobot to try out.
The Roomba 560 will sweep and vacuum your hard floor and carpet. It has sensors that can detect if a particular spot on your floor is extra dirty and needs a bit more attention. It has a brush that sweeps against walls and knocks items into the path of the Roomba, so it can pick it up.
You can schedule the Roomba to clean on specific days or times, or you can just hit a button, and it will start cleaning.
What’s cool is that when it’s done cleaning or if the battery is running low, it will return to its home base to recharge.
The Roomba units also come with Virtual Walls. You can set up these walls to prevent the Roomba from entering a room or if you want to prevent it from leaving a specific room.
So does the Roomba do a good job cleaning? YES, it does indeed. I find that I no longer have to sweep. I do have to mop from time to time, but sweeping is no longer a chore I have to do. It also keeps my area rug in my living room clean. I have a dog and pet hair would get all over it. The Roomba 560 gets the pet hair off. In fact check out the picture below, so you can see how much pet hair it picks up.
Oh and if you are wondering, it is very quiet. I have it set to clean my floors late at night, and I don’t even hear it when I am sleeping.
iRobot also makes one that mops your floor, and I am honestly considering getting it.
Overall the iRobot 560 is fantastic. It does the job it was built to do, and it does it perfectly in my opinion. For that, we award it our 5 Start Must Have Award and recommend it to everyone.
You can find the iRobot Roomba 560 at stores such as Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Wal-Mart, and online at Buy.com, Amazon.com just to name a few.
Here is a little video I made of LaIndia puppy taking a ride on the Roomba 560.

Just make sure that the unit does not go over a wet spot on the floor. This could be a very bad thing. Trust me I am a carpet cleaner in NJ. I have seen some interesting things with these units

Once you have got a Roomba, a dishwasher and one of those silicone Realdolls you are all set. You don’t need whining girlfriend anymore.

This model is supposed to be able to clean four complete rooms, it can be scheduled to clean at a scheduled time, it has a self-charging base which it will return to when its done cleaning (brilliant!), and it includes two Virtual Walls.

I’ve never heard of these Roomba’s before, but they sound amazing. They probably don’t clean to OCD level, but should be perfect for me - does anyone know if these are available in the UK, or where I can buy one from? Also, Roomba’s look pretty small - what kind of level of storage can they hold?

I keep going back and forth about ordering one of these. I wonder if the Roomba will do as good a job as an old fashioned broom. If the price ever comes down I will probably get one. I get sick of sweeping.
