When you hear of AAA, you immediately think of the American Automobile Association, that cool group that if you are a member, you will always have someone to help you if you’re stranded on the side of the road.

Well not only are they there to help us when we are stranded, they are also there to help us find our way. AAA has created, with the help of Networks in Motion, a mobile phone GPS application that runs on various mobile phones like the Motorola Razr with Verizon or a Blackberry with Sprint, even alltel offers the service.

aaa mobile navigator screenI tried the AAA mobile GPS software here in New York City on a Motorola Razr from Verizon Wireless, and I have to say it was probably the fastest GPS signal finds ever. It was less than 30 seconds, and it gave me directions rapidly too. I really liked the follow me feature. Since I tend to walk a lot, I found this very useful especially on such a small phone like the Razr.

It is also probably one of the smartest and fastest mobile Navigation softwares I have used. I was on a trip with my friend Indi to Long Island; we got lost. We missed a few turns, and it automatically adjusted the route without any lag, I thought that was pretty impressive.

You can also tell the software to avoid HOV lanes or route you via the fastest or simplest route.

The software will also let you request help from AAA via your phone without having to call them, it will send them your GPS information and have someone dispatched to you, AAA members will get this service free with their subscription to AAA, non members will have to pay extra for that help.

You do not need to be an AAA member to use the software on your phone. Alltel, Sprint and Verizon Wireless has the AAA GPS software for a $9.99 per month or $2.99 per day. A list of compatible phones/carriers can be seen at http://www.aaa.com/aaamobile.

I suggest you try them out. We really liked it and recommend it to everyone. It’s a Definite Must Have if you travel a lot, and for that, we award it our 5 Star Must Have Award.

stick with what ever he is comfortable with.

I mean this may benefit him more if he is an AAA member.
