If you have ever been to San Fransisco, one of the first things you will probably notice is the amount of homeless men and women on the street. San Fransisco has a pretty good program that basically feeds the homeless and gives them various necessities, that helps makes their lives easier, and it seems Google wants to help out.

Starting today Google has begun giving free voicemail numbers to the homeless in the San Fransisco area, the numbers are linked to the Google Grancentral service. The free voicemail offer is a joint venture between Google and Project Homeless Connect.

The Mayor of San Fransisco and some people who were previously homeless are saying that these numbers will allow for family members to easily comunicate with their homeless relatives. But I ask, if they are homeless how are their families even going to get this voice mail number, it’s not like these men and women on the streets of San Fransisco are getting cell phones, where they can call their family members and say “Hey this is Uncle Bob the one that sleeps on Market Street and 13th in Downtown San Fransisco, I’m just calling to give you my new number”.

I think this is a dumb idea, and I suggest Project Connect and Google, instead of spending money on this spend money on getting these men and women off the streets.

Why would a homeless person need a voicemail? How will they check it?

With their homeless psychic abilities!

No they are going to use their computers to log into their GrandCentral.com accounts.

It’s not just for contact with family. The numbers serve a lot of other purposes as well, such as potential job applications of some sort, and test results from clinics.  They can access their messages from any phone… who says the homeless can’t get change to use a pay phone?  I assume other places will have phones available for use, such as soup kitchens and such.

So many homeless in San Fran, I don’t think there are enough payphones, soup kitchens, voicemail accounts to accommodate them all

They are also the most aggressive homeless people I ever seen.

They are so spoiled by the goverment in San Fransisco that I doubt any of them would want to find a job.
