Today AMD has announced two new Quad-Core Processors the 9350e & 9150 which run at 2.0 Ghz and 1.8 Ghz respectfully but use no more than 65 watts of power, and it gets even better both chips are sub 200 dollars. The 9350 will sell for $195 and the 9150 for $175.
I have been testing the 9350e for a few days now, I got it last week Wednesday while I was in Texas visiting with AMD and I have to say I am pretty excited about the chip. A true quad core and only uses 65 watts of power, think of the money I will save on my electric bill, the new chips also run cooler so they are perfect for small slim line computers.
I haven’t been able to test the chip extensively because I have been traveling, but I did run some PCMark Vantage benchmarks (5 in total) on the 9350e and the average is 3915. Which is pretty good if you ask me. System I tested it on was a custom built system with a GA-MA78GM-S2H motherboard (Gigabyte) 2 Gigs of DDR2 ram and a 1TB HDD.
I know I may be repeating my self but the new Quad-Core 65 watt processors are going to be great for those Slim-Line PCs which are the fad lately, and even servers. WIth the price point being under 200 dollars USD, and with AMD’s hybrid graphics (780 chipset) one can get a really good computer that can handle heavy loads and heavy game play for under $500.
We never have awarded a processor an award, but the 65 watt quad-cores from AMD in particular the 9350e has been awarded our 5 Star Editors Choice award for the Month of July.
Other AMD processor news, AMD has announced a new Black Edition Processor the Phenom™ X4 9950 Black Edition Quad-Core Processor (2.6GHz). With a retail price of $235, this is an affordable quad-core processor for those that want maximum performance while mega-tasking. And the best part; it’s an unlocked part, meaning it can be overclocked using our AMD OverDrive utility.
The previous Black Edition processor the 9850, will lose it’s Black Edition Status in the coming months, and on July 7th it will drop in price to $205.
