On the 23rd of November Opera invited us all to test out the new version of their browser (10.10) and it would seem that people have taken advantage of the invitation because 7 days later more than 12 million people have downloaded the browser.

“With such remarkable download numbers, I am confident that we truly appealed to the needs of the Web-using public. Opera 10.10 is visually more compelling, and technologically speaking, it goes where no browser has gone before,” said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. “We believe that, over time, Opera Unite has the power to erase preconceptions of how we access and share information on the Web.”

According to Opera they have over 45 million desktop users with a lot more using multiple versions of the browser on different devices such as mobile phones and game consoles.

I personally have used Opera and probably am one of the 12 million that downloaded it over the past 7 days but I am not a huge fan. It’s a good browser but not the greatest one ever made. However there is a huge following and if you want to try it out visit http://www.opera.com
