Do you hunger to perform superhuman gastronomic feats like Takeru Kobayashi, or to cross forks with the “Black Widow” Sonya Thomas? Well, thanks to Mastiff Games, that desire may be sated as they prepare to release Major League Eating: The Game through the Nintendo Wii’s downloadable game service, WiiWare. If you’re really interested in Major League Eating or maybe you’re just feeling a little peckish right now, continue on for more juicy details and (maybe) less puns.
Nintendo’s WiiWare is set to launch on May 12, 2008, and MLE: The Game will provide players with the opportunity to simulate professional gurgitation through the motion-sensing capabilities of the Wii Remote. It will not, however, be as easy as lifting fork to mouth, as “MLE: The Game requires players to master a smorgasbord of offensive and defensive weapons including bites, burps, belches, mustard gas and jalapeño flames while cramming and chewing food at a world-class pace.” Those with slightly more delicate sensibilities may want to think twice before trying this game, as if you don’t eat wisely, your character will toss his cookies, spaghetti, pizza, and whatever else you might have been shoveling down his virtual throat in a vivid technicolor display.
MLE: The Game will actually feature some of Major League Eating’s better-known celebrities, allowing all the amateur eaters out there to burn calories while matching up against virtual versions of their favorite chowhounds. The game will be for one or two players locally and will also support online play with a leaderboard. So I guess now you can have your Wii and eat it too...just try not to knock out a tooth, okay?
