As we prepare to finish off April with the release of Grand Theft Auto IV and move into the merry month of May, there have been several recent announcements of purchasing incentives for various games.  Most notably, the collector’s editions of Grand Theft Auto IV and Fallout III and the Xbox 360 version of Command and Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath.  Is there one piece of swag that companies feel that gamers desire more than all others?  We’ll take a quick look at the accompanying items for each game to see if there are any common links.

Given that its release is nigh, we’ll start off with the collector’s edition of Grand Theft Auto IV.  Clocking in at a pricey $90, buyers will receive a soundtrack CD, art book, metal safety deposit box, and a duffel bag.  All have the same artistic stylings and are in a very smooth black with the GTA IV logo printed on them to match the game’s box art.

Next up, we have the Fallout 3 Collector’s Edition, which will retail for $80.  Investors into this item will receive an art book, a making-of DVD, and a Vault Boy Bobblehead, all carefully packaged with the game inside a Fallout-themed lunchbox sporting the series’ signature campy (yet awesome) 50’s-style artwork.

Finally, although the game is out at this point, people who pre-ordered the Xbox 360 version of Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath received a talking Kane bobblehead in all its bald, charismatic glory.

It would appear that metal storage boxes and wobble-headed ornaments are the items of the times.  Personally, though, I think I’m most willing to go for the Fallout 3 package.  While a duffle bag might have infinitely more practical uses, how could I possibly pass up that lunch box?

Thanks to Gamespot, IGN, No Mutants Allowed, and EA for the images, and to Kotaku for their original articles.
