I was in the need for an internet connection, and Michael told me about Verizon FIOS, I wanted something reliable and fast and he swore up and down that it was the best internet service available.
So on his recommendation I ordered Verizon FIOS two weeks ago, and they finally came to install it today! YAY
Even though I ordered my service two weeks ago, Verizon scheduled my appointment for today between the hours of 8AM and 12PM. according to the customer service rep I talked to the service is in high demand and they could not get anyone here any sooner.
So I agreed and told them that I worked and I really couldn’t miss any work, the CSR I spoke with basically guaranteed that they would be here between 8 and 12. So I am ok with that I’ll just miss half a day of work.
So today comes I wake up early, I take the kids to school in a rush to get back and sit in my house to wait for the installer and hope that everything would work perfectly, my luck is not that great.
11:59 came and no Verizon Tech showed up, I was devastated I just bought a new computer and being that I am blogging now, I need to stop stealing my neighbors Wi-Fi and get onto something more stable. I was so frustrated that Verizon had not shown up yet I was getting nervous, what if they forgot about lil ol me. I started to get angry I WAS ANGRY! They guaranteed me they would be here between 8 and 12. I was so angry I was ready to call Comcast and get internet from them instead.
Just then Mike text me. He asked if they installed the service yet, and when I told him no and that I was considering Comcast, he said I should wait a little longer and not go with Comcast to stick with Verizon. I listened to him again and called Verizon and ask what’s up?
After waiting on hold for god knows how long they tell me that the installer is running late, why couldn’t they call me and tell me this? Would of saved me a lot of aggravation. I have a short temper for those of you who do not know me.
Since I needed to get to work I asked my mother in law (love the lady sometimes) to come over and wait for the installer to come. I was disappointed because I really wanted to see what they were going to do and make sure nothing caught fire.
So I get to work at about 12:50, and around 2 PM my mother in law calls me to tell me that they had just gotten there and were starting to install the service.
Every 30 minutes or so she would call me and say, he is outside, now he is in the basement, he is in the kitchen, he just used the bathroom and didn’t lift up the seat.
At about 3:30 PM she calls again and says well he installed everything the internet is working. But there is a problem, the wireless internet isn’t working.
Verizon said I needed drivers but that they don’t install that for me. Which is fine didn’t expect them to do that anyway, and I am a Geekette I can do it my damned self.
So when I got off of work at 5 PM I rushed home, finally I can use the internet at home without having to piggy back off my neighbors Wi-Fi which. But I was a little bummed that I needed to fix my wireless internet. Didn’t know why it needed drivers it worked the other day but maybe Microsoft pushed an update and it made my wireless funky. Who knows?
So I get home I sit down in front of the laptop and the Wi-Fi light on the case of my laptop is yellow, I flip the switch on and yay my wireless worked. Dumb Verizon Guy didn’t know about the on/off switch for the wireless.
So I connect to my router and I HAVE INTERNET!!! I was so excited I squealed, my husband thought that I saw a rat or something. The internet was so fast, I downloaded music from iTunes in seconds. I think I am going to be downloading a lot of things from now on.
I have the 15 Mbps / 2 Mbps, it’s faster than my Jobs Internet and I work for a big multi-billion dollar company. I feel so special.
The service is great, I will give Verizon that, but their customer service isn’t up to par and I kind of feel bad that they guaranteed the tech would be here at a certain time and he wasn’t.
Verizon Fios isn’t available everywhere so click here to see if is available for you.

whats the difference between fios and DSL?
Michael on Mon, Mar 31st, 2008 at 10:57 PM
DSL slower than Fios
DSL also uses telephone lines
FIOS uses fiber optics.

Fiber is wicked fast. The speed you achieve depends on what you pay for. The limit is at the bandwidth granted you by your ISP. Most of them in my state are offering as much as 50Mb/s for a reasonable fee for consumers. Most Time Warner folks in my area can only consistently achieve around 3.5Mb/s. Kitchen sinks

FiOS comes over a fiber optic cable, DSL is over a copper cable.
The speed, bandwidth, maintenance and signal to noise ratio are all better for fiber optic cable and signal attenuation is less.
