**DISCLAIMER** HardwareGeeks is not suggesting giving your password out, this is merely an opinion of Cindy. Remember always keep your personal information private such as passwords and identifying numbers **DISCLAIMER**

Last year I remember hearing about a study that claimed 65% of all people men and women would give up their password in exchange for a chocolate bar, and I can tell you I would give up my password for a chocolate bar provided you have no idea what my username is.

A newer study that I heard about today while driving into work, says that 21% of all the people questioned would give up their password for no good reason, and 45% of women would give up their password for a prize while only 10% of men would.

Now on the radio show they made fun of us women, they said we were dumb for giving up our passwords, that our passwords can lead to identity theft etc. etc. etc…

Well you know what, MEN ARE STUPID for not giving up their passwords. Why? Because what good is a password if you don’t know the username? What good is a credit card number if you don’t know the expiration date and the 3 digit security code on the back? What good are the last 4 digits of my Social if you don’t have the first 5?

If someone offered you a car, in exchange for your password and they had no idea what your username was, you would give it up, I would give it up and anyone who wouldn’t is a dumbass.

So everyone who is saying women are dumb for giving up their passwords, I say you are dumb for not!

I would give my password, and username. I would just change it as soon as I got to a computer or from my crack berry

I know her passwords, she always uses sexual enuendo in them.

AlphaAlien on Wed, Apr 16th, 2008 at 06:43 PM

and 45% means you’re in the minority, which means...men are more likely to give there password than women. I would never give anyone my password, username is so incredibly easy to get that it basically isn’t security. For example let me guess your username on this site...it’s CINDY! ZOMG! I hax!

If you gave me your password a simple google search will typically reveal a username for you or clues to what your username may be.

This post is moronic and shows a complete misunderstanding not only of what they were talking about but also what percentages mean.

She left out a piece of info in her post might of been my mistake when I looked it over when she sent it to me before she posted.

it’s 21% of all people questioned would give up their passwords for no good reason.

While 45% of women would give it up for a prize only 10% of men would.

You have a point! I agree 100% if a person doesn’t know you, doesn’t know your username then the password you give them is useless to them. Plus if they don’t know who you are can they really find you by searching? And how will they know you gave them the right password anyway?

Probably can change the password just as fast using a mobile device, if you wanted to change it after you gave it to them.

I keep my real life dealins so seperate from my personal life that I’d hand over my password.

I wouldn’t hand over the password for my jobs computer, but my personal email or instant messenger I would.

Dogerfan on Thu, Apr 17th, 2008 at 11:36 AM

passwords are like keys, you give them to people you trust in case you ever get locked out.

Audrey on Thu, Apr 17th, 2008 at 01:31 PM

Can you please make it so that my email isn’t required so I can share my password lol.

One should not give away his/her passwds or userids in any case. If you know the userid, passwd can be get through many ways like brute forcing etc. It works both ways.
