Today I got my hands on the Blueant V1 Bluetooth headset, which is I believe the first ever voice controlled headset available. I took some unboxing pictures and decided to share them with you.

It’s similar in design to other Blueant headsets we reviewed in the past like the Z9, the only difference is this one is silver. Before we get on with the pictures I wanted to mention that by far this was the easiest Headset to set up ever, a combination of the voice command prompts from the headset and the iPaq 910 allowed me to pair the phone in less than a minute.

V1 in Packaging
I always liked how Blue Ant packaged their products.

v1
There it is, out side of the womb we call its package.

everything
A picture of everything in the package, except manual.

We should have a review up with in a week or two so check back with us soon. For more info on the headset visit: http://www.myblueant.com/v1_voice_control.htm

Angelina on Fri, Aug 29th, 2008 at 01:08 PM

Tell you the truth it looks like crap.  raspberry

Michael on Fri, Aug 29th, 2008 at 01:32 PM

chris on Fri, Aug 29th, 2008 at 09:09 PM

I think it looks ok, just a bit girly

Michael on Sat, Aug 30th, 2008 at 05:55 PM

I been using it and a few girls asked me about it, so maybe it is girly but I got a number

I have to agree that it does look a little ugly.

I’ll look forward to the review though!

Does the V1 work with call waiting?

Michael on Tue, Sep 02nd, 2008 at 05:18 PM

Yes it does, you hear the beep.

Mark Stafford on Tue, Sep 02nd, 2008 at 07:37 PM

When u hear the beep, can u switch between calls using the v1 or do you have to use the phone to do so?

Michael on Thu, Sep 04th, 2008 at 01:34 AM

Haven’t tested that yet, but will try now.

Michael on Thu, Sep 04th, 2008 at 01:43 AM

nope I tried pressing the BAB button but no go, and the manual has nothing on it. But the firmware is upgradeable so maybe Blue Ant will release an upgrade that will allow it.

Mark Stafford on Thu, Sep 04th, 2008 at 08:43 AM

Hmmm, try holding down the BAB button for 3-4 seconds or try holding down both volume buttons at the same time for 3-4 seconds (like on the z9i)?

Michael on Thu, Sep 04th, 2008 at 02:36 PM

I did no go unless I am doing something wrong.

I will try again in a few.

Michael on Thu, Sep 04th, 2008 at 03:10 PM

No go, but I may be doing it wrong so I am going to Ping the person that sent me the headset to find out how to do it correctly.

But holding the - and + doesn’t do anything bu cause the device to beep and holding the BAB button for 4 seconds doesn’t do anything either.

Mark Stafford on Thu, Sep 04th, 2008 at 03:19 PM

ok, thanks for letting me know.

Mark Stafford on Thu, Sep 04th, 2008 at 09:34 PM

I got my v1 in the mail today and there doesn’t seem to be a way to use the headset to switch between the calls when the call waiting beeps. I called Blueant customer service before I ordered it and they told me that it worked with call waiting the same way the Blueant z9i does. (hold both volume buttons for 3 seconds to switch between calls and hold BAB for 3 seconds to call conference) Both the Blueant z9 and z9i allow you to switch between calls, so to me the V1 seems like a step backwards. Hopefully this will be fixed via firmware upgrade. As for the voice control, well, you might have to change your ringtones in order for that to work correctly. If you use mp3 ringtones the headset won’t announce the caller ID. You have to use basic ringers. I have a Motorola Razr 2 V9 (international version) and even after talking to Blueant on the phone I still can’t get the headset to answer or ignore the calls using my voice. It plays the ringtone from the phone instead of announcing the caller ID number and allowing me to say answer or ignore. After months of delays and waiting, I was really excited when this thing finally came out, but now after getting it, my conclusion is it’s poorly desinged and a huge flop and letdown. I’m considering returning it and going back to the z9i.

BlueAnt V1 Support on Tue, Sep 09th, 2008 at 01:39 AM

Hi All,

The V1 is currently unable to support the call waiting feature but this is being discussed a possible future update.
I hope this helps.

Kind Regards,

Blueant V1 Support
