Today Seagate introduced the Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB drive, the worlds largest desktop drive. Seagate thanks perpendicular recording for it’s ability to obtain 1.5 TB on the drive. They have also introduced the new Seagate Momentus 5400.6 and 7200.4 half a terabyte hard drives which are also power efficient.

The 7200.11 comes with 16MB or 32MB cache and a 3GBps transfer rate. The momentus drives will have 16 MB of cache and a transfer rate of 5400 rpm or 7200.
Shipments of the Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB are set to begin August 2008. Momentus 5400.6 and 7200.4 hard drives are to begin shipping in Q4 calendar 2008.

1.5 is just another step forward. Eventually, they’ll come out with newer technology that allows 2tb drives...10tb drives… or at least hopefully they will
