I am sure everyone who will read this review has the same problem I have. Too many freaking cables, and access to the back of your desktop isn’t that easy to get too.  Or maybe you have a laptop and when you set it on your desk you have nothing but cables surrounding it.

This is where the Dynadock U Wireless from Toshiba comes in handy; it takes the clutter of cables off your desk and gives you additional USB ports, audio, Ethernet and video ports.

The Dynadock U wireless is a Universal Docking station for Notebooks and a wireless hub for desktops. IT allows you to connect up to six additional USB devices, to any system without actually having a wire connected to that system, the only thing that need be connected to your desktop or laptop is the wireless USB dongle. No cables! The only thing it doesn’t do is power your notebook wirelessly. That would be cool though.

dynadockI got the Dynadock U wireless a few weeks ago, and loved it ever since. It installed easily and flawlessly onto my Windows Vista Machine. (There are just beta drivers for Win 7 currently available) The install did require a restart but after the restart I was ready to go.

First thing I did was add an additional Monitor to my desktop, I thought I would run into some issues but it pretty much was plug and play. As soon as I connected the monitor there was picture on the screen. So it worked and even though it was a wireless connection it didn’t seem as if it were lagged.

As soon as I dragged something from one screen to the other it was there, I was impressed. I had seen similar technology where it would take a second or two for the monitor connected wirelessly to show what you dragged over, but with the Dynadock Wireless U I detected no lag.

I then plugged in USB devices galore. It was fun to see the auto play box pop open for USB devices the instant I plugged them in. It was so quick it was as if I plugged them into the system I was using itself.
The transfer rate for some larger files wasn’t the best but it wasn’t bad either, I connected my FlipMino HD to the Dynadock U and it took about two minutes to transfer a 340 MB video file. While connected directly to the system it only took a minute 20 seconds. Not a huge differences but a difference none the less. But nothing to complain about.

The Dynadock U wireless also gives you an Ethernet port and I tested it out. I connected my modem to it and tested the internet connection and the speed was on par with what I’d get if I were connected to my wireless router. There was no noticeable difference if there was one at all.

You also get additional audio ports and they worked great as well. Just be warned when you install the Dynadock U Wireless software it will set the audio ports on the Dynadock U as the default ones. So if you hear no sound just go into your control panel > sounds and set the correct audio ports to your default one.

Overall the Dynadock U Wireless is an amazing product, and it’s a definite must have especially if you own a notebook and tend to do more work on it than your desktop.
