I have reviewed a lot of notebooks, and have used many more and because of that experience I can honestly say that the HP dv6000 is one of the most stable systems out there and I recommend it to all. I do however tell them to avoid the AMD based ones because of some bad experiences I myself and friends have had with those.
So the dv6885se is a great machine, it does what you want and it does it the way it is supposed too. You can’t ask for much more than that from a laptop. Or can you?
The HP dv6000 Special Edition which is only available at Best Buy, delivers the power you expect from the notebook but, also a sophisticated stylish look.
Indi once told me that certain reds are manly reds and although the color of the dv6885se is copper, she claims it is a manly red and probably the prettiest notebook she has ever seen. I agree--I even came off a bit ‘too girly’ and said it was pretty when I posted pictures of it.
It’s so pretty that I wouldn’t mind walking around with it, heck in an effort to be stylish I would forgo the notebook bag just to show it off. It may be a lot bigger than an iPod but it’s just as cool looking.
Even when the machine is open it looks great, the keyboard and the touchpad area have a silver finish (brushed metal), the touch bad itself has a charcoal finish. Everything fits together color-wise, there is nothing dull about how this notebook looks.
As I already said the dv6885se is a great machine and with the dual core Intel Centrino processor it has inside, it’s great for multi-tasking. With a Windows Experience Index (WEI) rating of 3.4 you can definitely get away with playing some games on it. I personally installed Crysis and at the lowest of settings the game played ok, not perfectly and definitely not as playable as you’d want Crysis but fairly decent for a notebook.
Something else I noticed is the system did not get that hot and the fans never seemed to be too loud, even when I was pushing the machine to the max.
Something I really loved about the dv6885se, was the screen. The system has a nice widescreen, perfect for watching movies. I just recently used it on a flight to Los Angeles and I was watching the bucket list, the lady next to me actually asked me if she could watch it with me, and complimented on how beautiful the notebook was. That’s 3 already that have exclaimed on its beauty!
The only thing I disliked was the mouse, it was a bit flimsy and felt cheaply made, but that really wasn’t a big deal and I didn’t even use it as I have my own portable mouse.
Overall the dv6885se is a powerful and sexy machine and deserving of our 5 Star Kick Ass Award.
