If you haven’t read our tx2000 review, I suggest you do so as it is a great notebook which recently has been refreshed and a new model the tx2500 has been introduced during a launch event in Berlin.

There really isn’t anything different between the tx2000 and tx2500, they are both the same machine the only real difference is you have new processors to choose from on the tx2500. A lot of you who have read my tx2000 review have emailed me asking if the screen is bigger, is it thinner and the answer to those questions is no.

Everything is the same.

I will be posting a video shortly with Kevin Wenztal about the tx2500. Lucy from ShinyShiny.tv helped make it.

The tx2500 has a starting price of $1049, and is available now from HP Shopping.

What processors does the 2500 come with, do you recommend waiting for a 2500 or just getting whats available now?

Michael on Sun, Jun 15th, 2008 at 08:51 AM

didn’t see that I didn’t mention that
AMD Turion(TM) X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processor ZM-80 (2.1 GHz)
AMD Turion(TM) X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processor ZM-82 (2.2 GHz)
AMD Turion(TM) X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processor ZM-86 (2.4 GHz)

Planning to buy a laptop. Requirement is looking for a handy machine at the same time should deliver performance. Am a hardcore developer so would be using IDE, Application Server etc for development. Am looking at XPS M1330 Core2 Duo 2.5 Ghz, 4 GB RAM and tx2500z 2.4 Ghz, 4GB RAM. Which one would be better ?

Any suggestions?

Michael on Wed, Jun 18th, 2008 at 02:35 PM

I love the tx2000 series, but for what you do I would go with the XPS simply because that core 2 duo is a more powerful CPU.

jon on Mon, Jun 23rd, 2008 at 08:30 AM

Do you think the difference in the class 5 graphix card and the class 3 of the 2000 and the 2500, respectively, would be an issue for graphic design?

Also, are there any huge differences in the processors between the 2? Are there anythings that are notably different?

Michael on Mon, Jun 23rd, 2008 at 11:34 AM

The processors IMO aren’t notably different than what was offered prior to the 2500.

as for your first question probably not an issue.

Hi,

I have so many questions :(
how much is the performance better with the new AMD than the older one?
How long is the runtime without power cord with the new CPU, and is there a improvement of the noise?
Do anyone know when this notebook is available in Europe?

I will be happy if you are possible to answer my questions wink

Michael on Sat, Jul 05th, 2008 at 03:44 PM

slightly faster, I wasn’t aware there was a noise issue with the tx2000. and Im not sure if it’s available in the US.

Hannah on Wed, Jul 09th, 2008 at 05:40 PM

Was dead set on geting a macbook but my friend had hear of the tx2000 and this tablet and touch screen stuff sounds great. I’m a pretty slow typer so taking notes by hand and saving them straight on to my laptop would relly suit me. However I’m really consurned about vista it just seams to have so many probles its not true and the last i read was that it cant handle itunes without crashing majorly.

Was wondering what your thought were on vista and on tx2000 v. macbook?

Also my friend was saying that a new tx was coming out in aug (here in sweden) and that it had seriously improved prestanda. Do you think he means the tx2500 or have you heard about any new versions?

Thanks H

Michael on Wed, Jul 09th, 2008 at 07:43 PM

I preffer Vista over OSX but there are others who would disagree. I also own a tx2500 and love it to death.

Ask your friend to let you try it out for an hour and see how you like it.

Geordan on Sat, Jul 12th, 2008 at 10:39 PM

Actually, the cruuent starting price is 899.00, but it is constantly changing. the orignal price was wat you said, but it has then jumped around to 899 then 949 then 939 then back to the current 899. I dont think HP knows how to price it.
Geordan
Could you do some more vids please!! Thanks!

Elsa on Sat, Jul 26th, 2008 at 04:09 PM

I heard a lot of the noise issue with the tx2500. Is there anyway to lower the noise? Does the CPU affect this problem? If it does, which one should I choose?
AMD Turion(TM) X2 Dual-Core Mobile Processor RM-70 (2.0GHz)
AMD Turion(TM) X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processor ZM-80 (2.1 GHz)
AMD Turion(TM) X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processor ZM-82 (2.2 GHz)

I’m a student and I do play some games once in a while (those free games, not like WOW). What is the ideal RAM, is 2GB really enough?

Thank you!

Michael on Sat, Jul 26th, 2008 at 08:59 PM

The noise issue is non existant with me and I think a lot of people are esagerating the problem as I have experience with a few of these machines and not 1 has had an issue. HP Is aware a lot of people are complaining though.

The noise people are complaining of is the fan spinning all the time, (doesnt spin all the time on mine) but some suggest that it may be just the way some are put together.

I would suggest the 2 gigs of ram and the fastest CPU if you are going to game

khaled ghanem on Tue, Aug 05th, 2008 at 09:37 PM

if noise is what your worried about , hehe just put the battery power plan at power saver and look what will happen

Andrew on Tue, Sep 02nd, 2008 at 12:51 AM

I personally own a tx2510us and i love it. it’s an amazing little machine, it’s got enough horsepower to handle everything i want to do, it can do ok gaming and get decent FPS, i play WoW more than anything and i get steady 60 fps with a rare drop to the 40s, there isn’t really a noise issue, if you’re doing something really demanding you can tell the fan is running but it isn’t bothersome and if you keep it in power saver the fan never really gets going and i get pretty decent performance even on that low power setting. it’s an awesome laptop and i’d recommend it to anyone.

Jon on Wed, Sep 03rd, 2008 at 06:41 PM

hi guys, i really want to get this laptop in the next coupledays and for the noise issue if use it only for taking notes on low brightness and wifi off whats the noise gonna be and battery life gonna be? thanks

Hey Guys,

I recently got tx2500 2.1GHz and all that.
Got some problems:
Questions:
----------------------
1. explorer hangs sometime jsut because when opening some websites.
2. After using a USB port a few times it stoped working, and started after a restart
3. Once when turn on it didn’t start properly, for me it looked like it was in a safe mode or something, keyboard didn’t work, looked like drivers were not loaded (like safe mode?)
4. Couple of times it wasn’t able to shut down completely (some light still were on, I had to shut down manually)
5. Couple of times after restart, during shut down it wasn’t able to shut down, consequently not able to restart

My tests:
----------------------
1. I rad a RAM test and it didn’t show any errors in the ram.
2. I tested the problem on which explorer doesn’t respond on chrome - it worked

I do not know what to think, I would suspect vista having problem, but problem is problem. Could you guys help me? Any suggestions?

Michael on Mon, Sep 29th, 2008 at 02:11 PM

hmmm, sounds weird those problems.

I would just make sure nothing is causing explorer to hang, are there any toolbars installed if there are just uninstall them.

but since you are having multiple problems there may just be something wrong with the hardware on the system.

Angie on Tue, Oct 21st, 2008 at 10:40 AM

Hi,
I have the tx2500 and have been having some problems with it.  I use the computer for taking notes at school and checking email.  The only thing I have installed on the computer is an HP printer.

Here’s what happens:
-the screen randomly scrambles and freezes that way - I have to manually shut down the computer
-explorer will not always work, seems like it just gets stuck trying to open, I have to close it and reopen, then it works
-I get a blue screen with white lettering that says physical memory dump, it counts down until it shuts down, this screen also contains various errors listed near the top of the screen, the errors are always different but some of them are “page fault in nonpaged area”, PFN error, memory error, IRQL error, after this screen the computer either restarts, stays frozen at this screen, or shuts down and I cannot start it back up for a while, I get this screen constantly - yesterday in happened 7 times during class
-I have run the memory test and the long and short hard drive test in the bios - they passed
-I have restored the system to the factory settings 5 times
-I sent the computer to HP repair, they replaced the RAM but that didn’t help at all

I have spent hours on the phone with HP support and they just have me repeat these same tests, any other ideas?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you, Angie

If you got any freezing experience, try to update your vista to service pack 1(SP1). This happen in my VAIO , after I update it, there is no freezing problem comes again to my laptop.
If you have a blue screen expirence, you have a problem with hardware or memory conflict. Try to uninstall some program that not compatible with Vista, try to clean your memory socket in your computer, and update to the latest driver from HP (including the driver for CPU and Graphic Processing Unit).
Also check if you used 2 memory in your computer it should be have in a same speed (pc4200, pc5300, pc6400, etc).

Regards
Three
