Speculation is running rampant about Apple delaying the developer kit for the iPhone.

Many iPhone users, including yours truly have been anxiously awaiting this release. The iPhone is a great communications device but has limited platform potential without access to native 3rd party applications. Yes you can “jailbreak” the iPhone to allow 3rd party apps but the price you pay is a convoluted update process each time Apple releases a patch.

It’s anticipated that developers will submit their apps to Apple for certification and be made available through the iTunes stores.
What’s not clear is the pricing or how updates to the individual apps will work. I don’t mind paying for apps I find useful but in my mind the price point needs to be $4.99 or less. Oh and give us an MMS app . . . please ?  The iPhone has proven to be very popular and stands to gain in sales and user base with increased functionality. Make it so Mr. Jobs.

4.99 or less? I think you’re dreaming tongue laugh

But then again it is a good dream, I wish that apps for Windows mobile devices cost $4.99 or less, I would buy a lot of them. Some of the best apps run in the 20 to 40 dollar range.

But if apple could keep the prices low then I’d expect a lot of people to buy them and it will be a huge money maker for both apple and the developers.

Probably but there are already a bunch of pretty well done apps out there for free. That $4.99 price point is more of an average. More complicated database type apps and games could be higher while a simpler alarm app could be less.

I have a gut feeling that you are right apps will start at 4.99 but they won’t be any cheaper than that. They will probably start at 4.99.

Ditto to MacGuy’s comments.  They better offer some sort of trial period to test out those apps before requiring payment tho.  Otherwise it’d be a waste of whatever $ amount they charge ya.

I myself won’t be able to partake in this until/unless Apple releases their exclusivity and allows TMO subscribers the ability to get the phones in the US.
