The w1707 webcam from HP will be the first webcam with a 3 MP sensor with Autofocus and 12 MP photo resolution with software interpolation. The camera has a 5x digital zoom and three instant buttons on the top of the camera for Chat, Video and Instant messaging. (Not sure what the difference between Chat and Instant messaging is).
You can also mount the camera on your monitor, or have it sit on your desk or any other flat surface.
Bundled with the camera will be Arcsoft Webcam Companion, Arcsoft Magic-I, Arcsoft VideoImpression, and HP PhotoSmart Essentials.
The camera is Windows Vista Certified, so it is guaranteed to work with Windows Vista, camera will also work on Windows XP, no word on Windows 2k3 support, and it appears there is no Macintosh support.
HP says the camera is built with High Quality components. I have asked if they used Carl Ziess lenses since Logitech uses them on their webcams, HP said they did not but the quality should be as good.
We will see about that, as we will have one for review in the coming weeks, so check back soon.
The camera will retail for $99.99 and be available only at Best Buy starting.

I don’t think it looks that bad, but I agree an IM and Chat button? why not just one?

You know I would agree in that picture the camera isn’t that great looking, but Fedex just dropped mines off and I have to say it looks a lot better in person.
