Since I was first introduced to the HP Touchsmart tx2 back in September 08 at a private NDA event, I became an instant fan of what I saw, and although the touchsmart tx2z is one of the few HP notebooks I haven’t had a chance to review for a long period of time it is probably one of my favorites if not my top favorite.
The tx2z is similar to the tx2000, with one huge difference. The tx2z has a multi-touch screen the tx2000 doesn’t. While both can double as tablets, because of the Multi-Touch you can do quite a bit more.
What exactly is multi-touch? It’s simply the ability to use more than one finger or both your hands while using the touchscreen. Because of the Multi-touch you can use gestures to flip a photo or zoom into it. It also comes in handy when you are trying to select more than one file in a folder.
I personally have only had a combined total of 3 hours with the tx2, but in those 3 hours I pretty much experienced the entire machine. From it’s sleek design, and stylish paint job (they call it Reaction Finish), to the power it has under it’s hood.
Powered by an AMD Turion X2 processor and up to 8 Gigs of memory, you’ll accomplish a lot quickly. Just like all the other notebooks from HP similar to the tx2 such as the tx1000 and tx2000, you are bound to get a full fledged entertainment experience, especially with the 12.1 inch HD LED blacklight monitor and up to 500 GB of storage. Only thing missing is a Blu-Ray player.
The HP TouchSmart tx2z series is an indicator that not only is HP making an amazing notebooks, but they are also innovators giving users what they need and want in ways they didn’t know they could have it. The tx2 is a perfect example as to why HP leads the pack and that is also why we award it our 5 Star Gold Editors Choice award.
Just because the tx2z is powerful and has everything you’d want and more, doesn’t mean it will burn a hole in your pocket. With a starting price of $899 you’ll be getting a lot of bang for your buck. The tx2 is available directly form hp.

Does it get hot like the tx2000 does?

The gfx card on it seems a little weak:
“ATI Radeon(TM) HD 3200 Graphics with 64MB Display Cache Memory”
Does that mean that it only has 64MB of dedicated gfx memory?
My old MBP has 128MB and my iMac has 256 MB VRAM.

The card uses onboard shared memory and an additional 64MB that is on the card it self and dedicated to the card.
If I remember correctly on the system I tested it used 128

Greatest ever made ? I think not. You lost me at the AMD processor and weak GPU.
