Dell last month announced their new Studio Notebooks, and I had a chance to play with one for 20 or so minutes a month or so ago and thought I would share my thoughts.

The new Studio Line is pretty impressive sexy looking machines designed for people who want who like to express themselves. The machines are available in six colors nine colors (Silver, Jet Black, Plum, Tangerine Orange, Flamingo Pink, Midnight Blue, Ruby Red and Spring Green) and uses in the award winning design that the XPS M1330 and M1530 brought to us.

Studio notebookWhile I only had 20 or so minutes with the machines, they were fun to work with. They had a matted like feel and the keyboard was excllent, easy to type on and I didn’t find my self looking down at the key to make sure my fingers were in the right position.

The new Studio notebooks also come with a variety of software, one software in particular caught my eye and it was the included Dell Video Chat Software powered by Sight Speed.

Using the built in Video Camera on the Studio Notebooks users can easily set up video conferences with up to 4 people, so you can have a virtual family reunion if you wanted too, the software is free to all Dell Customers and their Family members. I also tested out the SightSpeed software on my personal computer and it is pretty impressive but unlike the Dell Version you cannot have a video conference unless you use the Plus Software which is $9.95 a month but worth every penny. There is business service that allows up to 9 people in a conference.

“One year ago today we refreshed and revitalized our consumer portfolio with emphasis on product style, design and personalization. Flamingo Pink and Midnight Blue laptops have since became regular sights on college campuses and in coffee shops” said Alex Gruzen, senior vice president, Dell consumer product group. “The new Studio products demonstrate that Dell is continuing to focus on design and value, delivering attractive, feature-packed mobile digital lifestyle products.”

Dell Studio Notebooks will be available with optional Blu-Ray disc drives, support for broadband wireless built in, HD displays, Bluetooth support and more.

The Studio notebooks are available in 15 and 17 inches with a starting price of $799 (Studio 15) and $999 (Studio 17) they are affordable. The systems should be be available now Best Buy and Staples stores.

Sorry for not making this post sooner, it was supposed to go up when earlier last month, but do to the fire at our datacenter it was over looked.
