I have been collecting more and more pictures, videos and music during these past couple of months.  Due to my insatiable zeal to obtain more digital files, my storage space seems to have fallen into cold water and has shrunken drastically.

There was an obvious need for more storage - an easy, affordable solution.  In this day and age, hard drive bays fill up left and right.  The only feasible option left was an external solution – that looks nice of course!  This is where the VOX V1 comes into play.

When I received the V1 for review, I expected to install tons of software similar to other external storage products but there was no need.  I plugged in the drive to a USB Port (eSata available) and my Windows Vista machine detected it right away and TA-DA! I instantly had 750 GB of new storage.

There was optional software, which allowed me to easily back up the contents of My Documents with just the simple push of a button.  Another perk is that the software is really small only about 2 MB, and it worked better than some competitors software *Cough*Seagate*Cough* that tends to be bloated and often bogs a system down.

Data transfer between my internal hard drive and the VOX V1 was extremely speedy via a USB connection, I also tested via eSata and the speed increased a bit more, about 10% faster on eSata than on USB 2.0.

The drive is also very silent, if it weren’t for the little blue light on the front of the device I would’ve never known it was on. It also has a power-savings mode which can shut down its power to save some energy, but you would have to manually set it up.

The VOX V1 comes pre-formatted and works on both Windows PC’s and Macs.

The VOX V1 is a great external hard drive, it looks good, it’s easy to install and is extremely quiet in comparison to others—for that we award it our 5 Star Must Have Award.
