For the past week or so I have been playing around with the Samsung Story Station, which makes you think it will be some sort of media device that might connect to a television and allow you to stream content. But it’s not so I am a little confused why it’s called a Story Station.

The Story Station is a 1 or 1.5 TB external HDD that allows you to easily back up your music, pictures and videos along with whatever else you want and even comes with software that allows you to create a private sector on the HDD so that you can password protect your content.

I am always picky with the types of peripherals I have sitting on my desk. I like something that matches everything else and looks sleek and even sexy. The Story Station fits into all of those categories as I honestly think it’s the nicest looking external HDD that I have used in a while. No offense Seagate and WD but Samsung 1 upped you guys when it comes to design.

The Story Station even has a knob that turns on the drive but also controls the LEDs brightness at the front of the drive.

Installation is pretty straight forward, you plug it into your power outlet and you then plug it into your PC. Windows and Macs will automatically detect it.

Then simply install (if you want) the included software which is located on the drive, and you’re ready to go.

The Backup Software was pretty easy to set up and use, and since it is automatic you just set it and forget it.

I really liked the SecretZone software as it allowed me to create a location on the drive for me to store my sensitive information.

Even though Backup Station would have been a better name for the Story Station the Samsung Story Station is a great and easy to use backup solution, so if you are on the market for something like this then I would recommend the Samsung Story Station.

so far so good.. though I’ve just realised when I had one more folder to back-up… Some idiot decided to set them all in FAT32, despite the sheer size. Now I have to move everything back (after backing-up stuff all day) to format it and put it into NTFS, really not happy at that.

You can convert the FAT32 into NTFS instantly without formatting it again to NTFS. And all data will still be intact. Read up “convert FAT32 to NFTS”.
