Today Logitech introduced their new Illuminated keyboard, a keyboard that is only a tiny bit thicker than a number 2 pencil and probably one of the coolest and most elegant keyboards around. The keyboard is the thinest available from Logitech messuring .37 inches or 9.3 mm from base to frame. Logitech also announced a diNovo keyboard specifically for notebooks and the Logitech Cordless Desktop S520.
But for over a week and a half I have had the pleasure of using one, and I have to say I am pretty impressed with it, as the keyboard has added a bit of class to my desk. I have a glass desk with a black lining, and the keyboard has a clear plastic lining going around it, so it matches my desk perfectly.
I have to repeat myself, this keyboard is pretty impressive! The Logitech Illuminated Keyboard is called the Illuminated Keyboard because the keys are backlit, and I have to say it looks pretty sexy in the dark. The light has 3 Settings: High, Medium and low, you can even turn it off if you want too.
The keyboard has various hot keys which can control your media players. I tested it with both iTunes and Windows Media Player. The keyboard controled both flawlessly, even with-out the Logitech Software which has improved a lotover the past 2 years.
The hotkeys can also open up your favorite email, messenging programs and favorite search engine. However you will need to press two keys to get the hotkeys to work, a FN (Function) key and one of the hot keys at the top of the keyboard. I don’t really have an issue with that however as I have grown acostume to pressing two buttons with my previous logitech keyboard, however I am use to having the FN key on the left side of the keyboard, on the new Illuminated keyboard the FN key is only on the right side, something I will have to get use to that and not really that big of a deal.
As I already said the Logitech illuminated keyboard is a tiny bit thicker than a pencil, and to prove it just check out the picture below. Pictured is the keyboard and a number 2 pencil.
Overall the keyboard is great and even though I complained about the lack of a FN key on the left side of the keyboard, it is worth of our 5 Star Must Have Award. This Logitech Illuminated keyboard is beautiful! It’s elegant and sophisticated it’s perfect for everyone.
The keyboard should be available directly from Logitech.com and Newegg.com in October and has a MSRP of $79.99.

Is it worth the money though> Perhaps for a bit of class but it seems quite expensive for aleyabord unless you really care about how your computer system looks!

80 bucks isn’t expensive. I think it looks cool.

I just bought this keyboard for my Vista computer for working at home at night (photo editing, etc) and it is not only attractive day and night, but is also much heavier/substantial than you might guess. What do they have in this thing—lead weights?
Seriously, it is useable and classy. It’s about time we can get something as classy as what Macs have had for a while now (Keyboard on my 3-year-old Powerbook G4 is backlit). Only the actual F1 - F12 keys, Print Screen and Pause/Break aren’t backlit, but the specialized function keys in amber/orange are. This shouldn’t really be much of an issue, but ai thought I’d bring it up anyway. Kudos to Logitech for a job well done. It isn’t cheap, but it doesn’t feel cheap, either. I expect this keyboard to be a real hot seller for the holidays!
