According to the Chinese 2008 has been the year of the Rat, but for me 2008 has been the year of the Wi-Fi All in One Printer. HP, Epson and Lexmark have all put their best foot forward and each has delivered a great all in one.

Today we bring you a review on the Lexmark X4975 a wi-fi all in one. I’d like to say that I haven’t really cared for Lexmark over the past 2 years, as their quality hasn’t been as good as I remember. But when I met with Lexmark at a press event a few months ago, they said they had improved their build quality. I’m happy to say that they were truthful the quality of the X4975 is a lot better than other lexmark units I have had in the past. It also looks pretty sexy too!

:x4975Those of you who follow the reviews I write and have read my previous wi-fi printer reviews, you all know that I long for a wi-fi printer that doesn’t require I connect it to a computer first, and lexmark has delivered the first wi-fi printer that I know of that natively can be set up wirelessly with out connecting the printer to a computer first. However you do need a WPS enabled router. These routers give you a passcode that you can enter into any device that supports WPS and allows the device to configure the router to work with it with out messing up any of your settings. Pretty cool technology.

Installing the software was a little tricky, as I posted before I had issues with the printers software however it ended up being the fact I had other Wi-Fi Printers on my network that were causing a conflict. Once that conflict was eliminated I had no issues with the software and the installation was pretty straight forward. Took about 6 minutes to install.

After the software was installed and the software located the printer, I began to test the printer out.

First I Printed out some word documents, and I have to say the print quality and speed were very impressive, I averaged about 17 pages per minute for plain text documents (black and white) when adding images it dropped to about 14 pages per minute.

I then printed out some 4x6 and 8x10 pictures, print speed slowed down to about 4 to 5 pictures per minute but the quality was good, it wasn’t the best picture quality but it was better than a lot of what is currently available. You can print pictures directly form your computer, scan them and or insert a memory card into the printer it self. It even supports pict bridge which allows you to connect most cameras via a USB cable to the printer. So no need to transfer from your camera to a compute rin order to print, just connect the camera directly to the printer.

The scanner is also probably one of the fastest I have ever used and because of it’s speed copying documents and or just scanning pictures isn’t as time consuming as it use to be.

Overall the Lexmark X4975 is a great little all in one, and with it’s price point it’s affordable for most. We recommend it for college students and small businesses on a budget which a lot are in the economy we are in right now.

The lexmark X4975 professional is available at etailers like Amazon.com for as little as $125.

My Lexmark X4975 is printing labels, 8 up on one page. They are text and image. For some reason 4 of the printed label on the left side of the page, are complete of image and text. The labels on the right are lacking a portion of the image. Any ideas, please advise.

Thanks in advance

Sorry guys, what is USB? I’ve searched in acronymserach and I found out that USB can be Universal Serial Bus, Upper SideBand, Usage Sensitive Billing, Universal Silly Bus [joke]. Which one do you mean?

Yes, Lexmark X4975 is definitely a good buy. I have had the opportunity of reviewing the printer for the company I work for and we have seen that the printer is capable of delivering some great prints, both in monochrome and colour. We were a little disappointed with the photo prints though. Maybe, we are expecting all printers to have the print quality of Canon!

Another area where Lexmark generally lacks is in durability of the prints. Even Canon is not up to the mark. Epson is perhaps the only manufacturer that I know of who can deliver prints that can survive for at least one hundred years behind a glass frame.

Lexmark Printer is one of the best purchases I had in starting my small printing business. This is so reliable and gives really high quality print out. Nice article!
