So I had the chance to check out the AOC V22 22 inch Gamer Certified WLED display which features a 2ms response time, HD resolution (16:10), built in Speakers, microphone and webcam.
I remember a time when people would say “The purpose of an LCD monitor is to save space on your desk” and that pretty much still holds true today.
But it seems that LCD’s are getting bigger thicker and with huge bases. While they still are not taking as much space on your desk as an old CRT monitor they are taking up more, and that is why I was so surprised when I opened the box of the V22 monitor and saw how thin it was.
I used the V22 for 2 weeks replacing temporarily my HP w2207h and I think I gained back 10% of my desk because the V22 is so much thinner than the HPw2207h.
It was also really light weight, if you watch the unboxing video below you’ll see me lifting it with one hand. You can pretty much do that with any LCD monitor but not as easily as I was able to with the V22.
As you can see from the video, the V22 has to be one of the most elegant monitors around it kind of reminded me of some more expensive Samsung models but a but better looking.
After I got the V22 set up on my desk the first thing I wanted to do was game on it, but first I had to boot into windows, and I am not sure if it was the lack of dust on the screen or what but my desktop looked a lot crisper than it normally did, and so did the game I decided to play (Sims 3 and Microsoft Flight Simulator X).
While playing Microsoft Flight Simulator the previous monitor I used, on occasion I would notice some screen lag, not often but I would say every now and then I would notice some lag.
The two weeks that I had the AOC V22 I noticed no lag and I guess we can credit the 2ms response time for that.
I also watched some Blu-ray movies and man again I was blown away by the picture quality it was literally like looking into a window.
The sound quality from the built in speakers was pretty good as well, other mothers I have used with built in speakers sometimes leave a lot to be desired but the speakers on the V22 was really good not the greatest but for speakers built into the monitor pretty damned good.
The webcam didn’t have the best image quality but it was great for Skype and other instant messaging programs.
Overall the AOC V22 WLED HD monitor is fantastic monitor and for $239.99 price tag (Newegg.com) a great investment.

I just picked up one of these from Staples. Have you tried your V22 with the HDMI connector? Does it look better than VGA? I ask because I’m thinking about buying an HDMI -> DVI adapter.

By the way, if anyone else wants to pick up a V22 from Staples, here’s a 10% off coupon:
With that coupon plus the existing sale, it brings the price down to a very palatable $200.

I’m not sure about the pricing on this monitor. Dell has the led backlit G2410 24” monitor which regularly goes for $200-$260 depending on coupons and sales. The AOC might have the increasingly rare benefit of being a 16:10 monitor, but the dell (16:9) is larger and higher res. I noticed the AOC is going to be on sale at staples the week of 9/20/09 for $200. If you hunt around for a good staples coupon (valid on tech, unlike the other office stores) you’ll bring the price down closer to 180 after tax. If you have ink recycling rewards, even better! 180 is the tippy-top price range I’ll pay for a 22” monitor that doesn’t also make me a sandwich.

I agree with the other comments about the quality of the monitor. I bought mine at Staples for $183 incl tax. But the support is a nightmare. There is one good guy at phone support, but it is very hard to reach him. Not everyone is a geek. There is almost nothing in the box about how to make it work. The driver in the box does not work with Win 7. There is no alternate to download. You have to phone (painful) then they mail you a CD in the US mail (very slow). 1st time the sent wrong CD. Had to repeat process. There is no hardware manual in box, no manual on CD. Not even most geeks would be able to make the web cam work. 3rd time after total 3 weeks I got correct driver. Web cam won’t work without separate USB cable attached. USB cable is like a printer cable, not the usual same on both ends. Getting the wen cam to work and all set up correctly without manual, using trial-and-error is a colossal pain. Even though the hardware & price are excellent, it cost me twice what I paid in time and aggravation to make it work because of the worst overall support I have ever seen. Be warned. If you are NOT a geek, don’t buy it, unless you don’t need the web cam.

Beercan34,
I have a friend that has the same monitor and she just bought a Win 7 computer. I am trying to help her set it up and I saw your post - out of curiousity, what order did you install the software from the “new CD” to get the camera to work - the driver first? Would you mind sharing the phone number where to get the CD so I could get a replacement also? Or could you send me your copy so I could burn a copy and send it back for a small fee? I am sure I could save a lot of hassel that you had to go thru instead of going thru the normal channels - you can reach me at “mouseglider at gmail dot com” Thanks so much. I have to agree that their packing and lack of any instruction is simply terrible. Thanks agin for your consideration - also you can verify my mailing address at http://www dot mouseglider dot com
