So I had a chance to play with Hauppauge’s HD PVR and while I am a huge TiVo fan, I never have purchased a Tivo because I could never justify the $599 for the HD Version and the $130 a year for the service.

But I always wanted a DVR, because I have a busy schedule and am not always home in time for the start of my favorite shows like 24, House and Hells Kitchen, so of course I jumped on the chance to test out the Happauge HD PVR, and I shared with with Nina from CuteGeek.com so that she could give her thoughts on it over at CuteGeek

Speaking of Nina and CuteGeek.com, before I continue with my review check out the unboxing video she made.

HD PVRSetting up the HD PVR from Hauppauge is extremely easy, all you have to do is plug in the component cables and or video input cables from your camcorder or other video recorder even VCR and you’re set to start recording movies, tv shows and more to a harddrive. Whats also cool is, it comes with all the cables you’ll need so you won’t have to worry about not having the cables you need when you are setting it up.

Once it is set up, which should not take more than 5 minutes, all you have to do is program the HD PVR to record your favorite tv shows using the Titan TV Guide. The process is simple and easy to use so easy your grandma can do it.

But you can do more than just record TV Shows, you can record from a camcorder, a VCR. So yes you can easily backup your old movies and even homemade movies everything is straight forward and easy to do.

Overall I love the Hauppauge HD PVR and recommend it to everyone!

The Hauppauge will run you $249 and is available directly from Hauppauge.
