If you have an HP Mini like me or any Netbook available right now, chances are you do not have a built in DVD drive, and might carry your Netbook along with a notebook with you for when you do need that DVD drive.

But with netbook becoming more and more powerful and with a HD screen available on the HP Mini 2140 netbook, you really don’t need a notebook with you unless you need a disc drive. That is where HP comes in with their external dvd555s 8X External Multiformat DVD Writer, Thinner than the average netbook and just as stylish as the HP Mini.

dvd555sWith the dvd not only do I get a portable dvd player and dvd burner but I also get a CD labler as the dv555s features light scribe.

I have been using my dvd for about 2 weeks now and it’s fantastic, I was able to use it to install Windows 7 onto my netbook, it made it easier to watch DVD’s, since I did not have to stream them over my network. The dvd555s has made my HP Mini almost 100% complete, the only thing missing is the ability to synch my files with my desktop or laptop. But HP also has an online storage service called HP Upline that kind of helps make up for that, but that’s another review.

As you can see from the image of the dvd555s it’s stylish and pretty much will match any black netbook available, it also comes with a stand so you can have it set up vertically or horizontally.

Because of it’s portability and style it’s a definite Must Have for any netbook owner, and because of that we award it our 5 Star Must Have Award! The dvd555s is available now and you can get yours directly from HP for $99.99.

I actually use a laptop drive I have converted to USB for mine.

From the image it looks as if it’s an enclosed laptop drive is it?

Not bad. Same price as Apple’s external. Lightscribe is highly overrated though.

I read it needs a huge AC adapter.
