So for the past two days or so, I have been playing with the new HP Laser Gaming mouse with Voodoo DNA. Voodoo DNA basically means that the product is made by HP but the guys and gals over at Voodoo had some input in the design and how it should work. Kind of like the Blackbird an HP Desktop with Voodoo ideas and style.

The HP laser Gaming mouse has a nice little design to it, and if you are a blackbird owner it will match your system perfectly but it will pretty much go well wit any system. It has Blue LEDs on going down the middle of the mouse, which gives it a cool glowing effect.

HP Laser Gaming MouseThe mouse is a 5 button mouse, right click, center click, left click and two buttons placed on the left side of the mouse where your thumb would go. All of the buttons are programmable and you are allowed to have 5 separate profiles. For example in my case Profile one is the default PC profile, but profile 2 is my Crysis profile and I have the center button set up to be the trigger button instead of the left click. Just my preference. Profile Three I set up for Flight Simulator. So you can easily set up profiles for your games. Up to five profiles in all.

The software to set this all up is pretty easy to use and straight forward, doesn’t take a genius to figure out how to set up the profiles as it is all right in front of you when you open up the software. Of course you have to have it installed. Only thing that bugged me about the software was that a reboot was required.

The mouse it self outperforms it self, it’s great for doing typical computer work like browsing the web, writing a paper or review and checking email. But it also works great in gaming and I swear my kill rate in Crysis and Halo 2 went up because of it.

The mouse is very responsive to your movements and since you can adjust the DPI (you can have a different dpi on each profile) you can fine tune the mouse to fit the way you game perfectly. It is also a slim and light weight mouse so it is comfortable in your hand, and the way it smoothly glides over most surfaces (I tested on wood, marble and glass with a black backing) you will fall in love with the mouse right away.

The HP Laser Gaming Mouse is great for gaming and for that we award it our 5 Star Must Have award, because we fell all games Must Have it.

Hi,
A laser mouse is a type of computer mousing device that uses a laser beam rather than a ball to track the movement of the user’s hand. Laser mice are becoming increasingly common because they are perceived to have better tracking ability. In addition, they are not as subject to gumming up and subsequent distortion of the signal as conventional ball mice. The lack of moving parts also makes them far less subject to damage.

Well my I have this mouse and it was awesome however one day it went pop and stopped working. I could still click scroll and use the side keys but the mouse laser stopped working… I am not sure what happened and it doesnt make any kind of sense… If anyone can help me please do I dont know what to do with it.

Don’t bother buying this mouse it has a defect.. Eventually the mouse wheel (scroll wheel) on top of the mouse slips. for some reason it loses traction after a few months of use.  I thought it may be a one off, but i returned the mouse and bought the same exact one and the same thing happened within a couple months.  Everything else about the mouse has met my expectations and if it weren’t for the scroll wheel, i would be recommending it.

One thing I hate about the software that comes with it is the inability to select regular middle click function on buttons, because universal scrolling tends to give problems when trying to open up images in another tab when middle-clicking and whatnot. Also, it disallows you from quickly closing the scroll feature if activated within 3 seconds (the little circle with two arrows that lets you scroll faster through a page).

I agree with James about the defect, my scroll wheel slipped and won’t work and I’ve only had it a few months, everything else was great, too bad since I use the scroll wheel a lot when surfing.

I had the same issue as the other Jeff above. I came home today and everything worked except the laser.

Eh, my MX518 Optical Gaming Mouse just quit working and I had this one stored in my closet. I really personally don’t like it, the feel is awkward, and I keep hitting the mouse 4 button with my thumb. I personally wouldn’t recommend this.

@Jake

Hah, we basically have the same story: I have an MX518 and upgraded to this one, and I too also have problems with a large thumb, but I just put my thumb ahead of the buttons and got used to that.
