The first trailer for Battlefield Heroes, an upcoming game by DICE and EA, was released today.  DICE and EA, known for their highly successful Battlefield series of games, are trying something new with this installment of the franchise.  It was previously announced that this PC cartoon-style shooter will be available to download and play free of charge under EA’s new “Play 4 Free” model, a new strategy that EA is trying where games will be free, but will contain advertisements and optional micropayments.  Battlefield Heroes will be available for download in summer of 2008.

I think this is a great thing that EA and DICE are doing; a free game is always nice.  As long as the advertisements are not too outrageous, I think people will enjoy what they are doing here.  It was stated that ads will not be displayed during actual gameplay, so that’s good.  Given the success of the other Battlefield titles, this game has a lot of potential to be a big hit.  I only wish I had a PC that will be good enough to run the game!
