Hitachi (TSE: 6501) announced that it has successfully operated the world's smallest IC chip, which measures 0.3x0.3mm. The "mu-chip" is a non-contact chip capable of wirelessly transmitting a 128bit fixed number.
Two attached antennas pick up radio signals and the chip generates energy to transmit the number. The wireless chip ensures a high level of authenticity, as data is written on the chip's ROM in the production process. The antennas sandwich the chip. This structure helps reduce the chip footprint and allow the the antennas to operate normally even when the chip is turned upside down. http://www.japancorp.net/Article.Asp?Art_ID=4783 |
