mmmmm.... how come is it that my upload rate is always WAY higher than my download rate??? :(

The people on the other end must be limiting their upload rate...basically your downloading parts from other people.

I have the experimental version of the bittorrent program, so I can control what my maximum upload speed is. Boo me, I actually slow my speed to under 60 KB/s so the university doesn't get suspicious that I can go 300 KB/s :p

If you don't like that you have to upload or wish to lower your upload rate, then drop Bit Torrent. Clearly its not the app for you.

Go use KaZaA or some other crap p2p program. Don't be such a god damn selfish leech.

;)

I know. In all relaity you can't leach with bit torent.

If you set your uploads really low it will kill your download rate.
Allot of leeches go for the Experimental client thinking they can turn off uploads and have insanely fast download rates.

most likely I get a download and upload proportional to each other...so yeah when I lower it, the download goes lower.

but please let's keep this topic non warez, so do not distribute links where you can download stuff, the clients are ok to post.

How do you find content to dowload, when I start the program it asks for a URL. : (

Uh...why are you guys using that crappy client? Try out ABC (http://pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net/) ...it lets you tweak your upload rate, how long you seed after the download is completed, and your upload rate while downloading and while seeding. Not to mention it doesn't open up a different client for each download, and you can queue up downloads.

Yeah, I use ABC. A lot better than Bit Torrent. Seems to be faster than Bit Torrent aswell. Heres a link: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/pingpong-abc/ABC-win32-v2.6.1.exe?download

is ABC better than Azureus? i'm quite impressed with Azureus, i was using BT++, but it's stayed in Alpha stages for waaaay too long.

ABC was the 3rd client I ever tried I think as I didn't need to look any further for something that actually works for me. (I know the first client I tried was the original BT client and I think the second had some umbrella icon of some sort.)

finagle, you've already heard two endorsements for ABC, go ahead and try it. I really like it and wouldn't have gone back to BT if not for foobar2000's torrents that require it. Now, I'm keeping the client installed for other uses as well.

i used to use burst!, pretty good client i liked it.. i just downloaded ABC, looks better, but not sure about the overall performance of it... unless theres something I don't know. but i'm gonna stick with it because of the GUI and overall abilities. Thanks

ABC is essentially a "frontend" for the Shad0w experimental client, w/ added queue support. Other than that, not much is changed in the core. It's got better visuals, and is much easier to tweak, which is why I prefer it to any other client out there.

well to each his own i guess. i installed the newest java when i installed Opera so, i already had it. Azureus is by far the best and most indepth BT client i've used :)
