While this board has helped me to fix a few of my troubles, i still have a few that I would like help with.

1) How to stop the desktop icons locations being reset on startup

2) How do I change the boot screen from XP to a Longhorn one? I have a boot screen for XP but not sure how to add it to LH

3) Get OE to save my email account passwords, the box to save password is ticked.

4) AlphaAlien, how do you get that info on your system on your desktop?

5) How do I turn of the new address bar in explorer and go back to the traditional one?

6) Somehow I have managed to get the files and folders mixed in together, see the attached pic, how do i get them back to the traditional way?

I think that is all for now.

Many thanks to any that can help

Kind Regards

1) you can't with this build, sorry :(
2) Use Resource Hacker on ntoskrnl.exe in %windir%\system32
3) Just remake the account :)
4) Thats CoolMon from arsware, just do a google search for it to get a copy :)
5) Just click towards where the arrow was shown in XP and it'll appear, and you can't make it default
6) just r-click and arrange icons by type, or auto-arrange

AlphaAlien,

Thanks for the help.

Remaking the OE account worked a treat thanks. Im going to try that CoolMon and ResHacker.

If im editiing my ntoskrnl do i need to woprry about WFP? I tried both options for the files/folders but didnt work as I wanted but its someting i can live with

Once again thanks for your help. By far this is the best place for longhorn problems, defiuantly will hang about here.

Update:
I have just look in the NTOSKRNL file and it does not have all the bitmaps that are show on the loading screen. Does LH use another file in conjuction with the ntoskrnl file?

no, just reshack shows some of the bmp's as blank.
For WFP refer to my WFP in longhorn guide which should still apply for 4008 unless you checked 'copy files from cd' in which case you also have to extend it to %windir%\i386

welcome :)
