View Full Version : I Have an idea about MCE TV-Tuner problems

.....well
Can we find a programmer and make the MCE to "target" the each system's drivers of it's own tv-tuner no matter what brand/model is?

We can "donate" his/her time creating that kind of "patch" if will be tested for the proper use and connectivity among the modules.

I'm with the "free software" but sometimes like that I prefer to give some $$ to an individual creating something usefull and free for the rest who won't donate if they don't know, than upgrade to "compatible" tv-tuner.

So what you think HWG members? shall we start searching for developer/programmer or wait till somebody will to this after some weeks/months?
Cause I'm kinda tired seeing so many people (including me) asking AlphaAlien how the hell can Media Center work in WinXP, in Longhorn, or after the proper installation how the hell the tv-tuner could work.

Sometimes we have to invent something than stay and desperate searching for poor solutions.........

Post your thoughts if you agree on that idea, and if not please tell me why. :)

Have a good day/night and greetings from Greece :D

it's been tried, MCE though has some basic requirements on what the tv tuner can do, namely Hardware MPEG2 and 4 decoding, which from my investigations is only those 3 cards at the consumer lvl, their's other's at the professional video editing lvl but they're not likely to come up in a normal workstation.

Though if other tv tuner's with that requirement show up shouldn't be any harder than compiling togethor the ASF+MPEG4 codec that mce uses, and pointing it to the TV Tuner's drivers in the right way through medtroc.inf

*wonder's if theirs a way to make it work quickly in software mode*

Yeah AlphaAlien.....I agree, but must be out there a scripting magician and make old Tv-Tuners like mine based in BT-878 Philips chipset, to work.
My card's "website" is www.lifeview.com, and my model is FlyVideo 98.
Drivers are here http://www.lifeview.com/Service/Download/download.html

If that scripter can examine and compile files to work with MCE I could give him $50 immediately :) as a Donation for his time and spread for free to rest of the world that (driver or patch) that he could create.

I hope someone will try to play soon with this idea ;)
My best wishes and my support to him/her.
