Hi, i installed longhorn yesterday on my pc, and i have to say its not that buggy and unstable as if i first thought when i didnt have it and was reading the forums.
It all works very fast on my pII 400MHz, 256MB :) for real, i use most of my applications, but i have a problem that i cant install my SB awe64.
there isnt a xp/2000 driver so i tried the 95/98, no luck at all.
then i tried the NT driver, at first glanze i thought, this works well, the device got found and installed, but in the hardware list there is a yellow ! in front of it, and it wants to use irq5, but that one is reserved for intel usb pci bridge whatever, i cant change the irq.
so i head over to the bios and turned irq 5 on legacy , rebooted.
things went fine, checked the hardware list as fast as possible, no more yellow ! in front of SB.
But as longhorn booted on, the systems crashes, tried some more combo's in the bios, but none work :(
isnt there a 2000/xp hacked awe64 driver around or so, or a way to get it work?
Thanks!
(oh, and please dont comment if you say buy another card, coz this one is crap or so, dont need that)

@michael: never tell someone to use 9x compatability when installing a driver, it will mess it up

@neo76: http://www.americas.creative.com/support/files/download.asp?Centric=151&OS=13 those are the XP drivers for the AWE64 Gold, their is essentially no difference between the AWE64 and Gold ed. so it should work. If it doesn't then here's the normal AWE64 drivers for XP: http://www.americas.creative.com/support/files/download.asp?Centric=14&OS=13

WEll, i tried the 2 links, but it says :
You have selected Sound Blaster AWE64.
To receive support for a different product, click here.

Sorry, driver files and software updates are currently not available for your product running under Windows XP.

there is just no support from creative :(

i guess my soundcard did get recognized in windows xp pro.
anybody knows were the driver database is located on the winXPpro CD (maybe in a .cab file???)so maybe i can get them off from there.

driver.cab in the i386 folder, prettysure it was a multiple card fairly-generic driver.

seems that this wont work also :(
trying update driver in the hardware manager, and point location, but it wants an .inf file and that one isnt in the driver dir wich i unpacked the driver.cab to :(
dunno what to do, no support from creative and as far as i know no alternative drivers around :(
if anybody knows more, feel free to let me no, im off going to cry in a corner now :( ;)

:/ might also try pointing it to %windir%\system32\drivers though thats mostly dll's also %windir%\inf after that only thing left would be to scrounge around to see if their's a win2k driver for it and use that.

since the AWE64 is ISA based I don't think their'll be any hacks

Hell yes, i backed up the whole .inf dir from win 2000 just for safety. just redone installing longhorn now on my c drive and did all the tweaking, now the only thing left is installing the hardware whats left over so if all goes well now i sould get sound with no problem :)
