View Full Version : Longhorn? lynchknot 12-25-02, 10:00 PM Should I/we be downloading this? http://www.flexbeta.net/main/comments.php?catid=1&id=118 peteross 12-25-02, 10:27 PM lynchknot dont feel guilty about d/l it. i dont see why not. they posted the links and are making it available to the people who want it. no harm in that. also its a nice way to get members for a brand new site. lynchknot 12-25-02, 10:32 PM I'm wondering if it's worth it. Will I lose all my msstyle themes? peteross 12-25-02, 10:34 PM not sure but i think you will. i believe AA runs longhorn he can tell you better. AlphaAlien 12-25-02, 10:58 PM yes you will, longhorn using a very different skinning engine than XP does, so old skins and old ways to get around .msstyle protection don't work on it. Though window blinds 4 is supposed to work on it lynchknot 12-25-02, 11:06 PM Is this any good? er.......is it warez? phantomAI 12-25-02, 11:32 PM Well, Longhorn isn't exactly on retail, so I can't see the real harm of using it right now. I'm not sure if MS really wanted this to be a closed test version, since many out there are using it. I personally don't think it's worth downloading right now though. AlphaAlien 12-26-02, 09:48 AM it's not warez, but it's not exactally legal either. Since it's not retail yet it's not stealing like warez is but it's still in that grey area. It's only worth downloading it if you feel comfortable downloading it. If you have second thoughts don't download it, longhorn isn't for the timid user yet. Chris123NT 12-26-02, 01:56 PM I would say download it. Its definately worth it if u like playing with the newest stuff. It does require a little tweaking to run fast and stable but that shouldn't be a problem ;) phantomAI 12-26-02, 02:53 PM I am a very patient person...so I will wait for the beta.... then again you have to be patient with MS ;) lynchknot 12-26-02, 02:58 PM No themes=no download :D peteross 12-26-02, 03:54 PM that's exactly how i looked at it. Chris123NT 12-26-02, 04:00 PM It does have themes just the engine has changed so existing XP themes cannot be used. Did u guys really expect MS to leave the theming engine unchanged in longhorn? Get real people :P lynchknot 12-26-02, 04:14 PM ok - no existing XP themes = no download :p AlphaAlien 12-26-02, 04:37 PM WindowBlinds 4 works on it :p lynchknot 12-26-02, 05:27 PM /*me (bow) iceman's jaguar */ gunsmokingman@msn.co 01-07-03, 01:41 PM Im using it and it ok some problems but that to be expected VAG 01-08-03, 09:07 PM Well in my Longhorn 3683 I can use also xp themes silver/gold and blue, except the Plex Longhorn theme :) Michael 01-08-03, 09:15 PM freaky lol Hypnotic 01-08-03, 09:20 PM I'm pretty happy with winxp pro for the most part. I'll wait till the next version goes retail. :) peteross 01-08-03, 09:23 PM same here. unless the longhorn beta is that damn nice then i'll contemplate using it. phantomAI 01-09-03, 12:01 AM I don't want to use the alpha version, I'll try out the beta when released *partitions 10 GB to play with :D |
