I've just upgraded my comp with a new motherboard, memory and cpu. I was running dual O/S with Win XP Home and Win XP Pro which worked great on different harddrives.

After the adding the new hardware, I went through the Bios procedure then tried started the O/S where it gave me the choice (as normal) but then came up with a blue screen saying 'A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down etc... Check for viruses, remove any newly installed hard drives or controllers. Check your hdd and make sure it is properly configured and terminated etc...'

The new parts are an Asus A7v8X motherboard, 1024mb DDR 400 memory and an AMD 2400+ CPU

I'm in desperate need to get this sorted ASAP so would appreciate any ideas

@evolution1: i had this problem myself... i had to format. i don't know how to help you out other than to format on hdd while leaving the other the same and install xp on the newly formatted one while you salvage what you can from the other hdd.

Welcome to HWG man. And oh yes to answer the question no XP's service packs will NOT work. You obviously are new to alpha OS's so let me explain. Longhorn is a completely new OS which will be the successor to XP coming out in late 2004 early 2005. XP service packs will not work for the sole reason that Longhorn is its own Operating system. Its not even based off the XP kernel. MS is building it off the framework of server 2003 which is far superior IMO.

Only 3 or so more weeks of school left (no, not really, its more like a month, but 3 weeks of real school, if that). Then for the summer, i'm going to ball all over Europe for 5 weeks, then its up to Oxford for some Ole Miss (http://www.olemiss.edu) action. I plan on majoring in International Studies (well, not really plan on, i sorta have to if i want to keep my scholarship) and that'll be fun times. I would've liked to go to Tulane, but Ole Miss = less than free, Tulane = 25G's a year (after the money they gave me). Outside of school i work at Broad St. (http://www.broadstbakery.com), but only like 16 hrs a week, still when they pay you $8.25 a hr., its alot of money. So that's my life really, school (William B. Murrah (http://www.jackson.k12.ms.us/schools/high/murrah.htm) ) and work. On the weekends, i take out the big body benz and go out and about in the bold, new city. Usually, there's not much to do, especially since the Wiener's sold the office, so now there is no definite thing to do on the weekends. It varies from weekend to weekend. Right now, i'm just chillin, maxin and relaxin in my lab (i've told you everything else, i might as well throw in the absolute, most up to date, current information), becuase we're pretty much finished for the year. My doctor didn't get his grant, so all these mice that we had been using didn't really mean anything becuase there's no money.
