i have 3 computers hooked up to a Lynsys router and every once in a while i'll start up my main computer and the ip will change.
my main computer should be 192.168.1.100 all the time and the other two i guess don't really matter. My question is how can i make my main computers IP number stay at 192.168.1.100 ??
TIA

In your LAN config in your computer set it to use a static IP ( 192.168.1.100 ) instead of DHCP.

i just tried that and now my main does not have connection at all but my other 2 comps do. any idea what i did wrong?
i went to Local Internet Connection Properties and clicked on TCP/IP Properties. there i clicked on "Use the following IP Address" and there i put...
IP address = 192.168.1.100
Subnet mask = 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway = 192.168.1.1

would this be right?

Yeah that looks right. Hmmmm.

yeah it's correct, but will never work as long as the router is still doing dhcp

Is one of the other two comps already taken up the .100 ip?

yes
it seems when all computers are off, the first computer that gets turned on is given the .100 IP

thats because the other computers are probably set to Obtain an IP automatically, in which case the router assigns it the first IP available. set the other computers to take IP's of .101 & .102 and you should be set.

Yup that's right. I assumed he knew that but I guess not.
