I do a lot of PC repair work on the side and often use PayPal as a form of payment. I have the traditional PayPal here reader but with all the new card features out there, I decided to upgrade to the Paypal Chip Card Reader and thought I would share some unboxing pictures and a quick review.
First I unboxed the bad boy, and while unboxing it I realized it’s a little heavy. Not sure of the exact weight but it is heavier than my Galaxy Note, at least it feels like it.
Here is a picture of the contents.
As you can see from the packaging, it comes with two stickers (horizontal and vertical) to display what forms of payment are accepted. While the stickers say Apple Pay they do not say Samsung pay or Google Pay. I have tested Samsung Pay with it and it worked, I did not, however, try Google Pay. The device also comes with a USB charging cable. Quick note the reader charges quickly.
Overall the Chip Reader is great, but I do wish it came with a carrying pouch, after all why doesn’t it for that $149 dollar price tag. (There are ways to get it for free, you may see an ad on this site for a free one.)
The Paypal here app is also great works flawlessly with no issues. I also use square, but I do prefer PayPal as it has more name recognition where I live and people are more comfortable when I use the PayPal device vs the square device.
